Great hike! I did it by myself in the rain with wet jeans. The first 3-4 miles are straight up with alot of switchbacks it was pretty intense. I made it up to the lookout tower in 2.25 hours and then back down to the parking lot for a grand total of 4.25 hours and that includes a 15 minute break on top. I am 39, 6ft 5 in. 215 LBS and don't really workout on a regular bases and eat junk food so if I can do it so can you.

I think this would be a good hike, but if you’re a causal hiker like me and haven’t been to the gym in 6 months, you might die. It’s about 5 miles uphill, and it took us about 3 hours to summit. It also rained almost the entire time and so at the top there was no view. I think it would have been worth it for the view, we just didn’t get that this time. So if there’s a chance it will rain / be a cloudy day, I wouldn’t do it. There is a nice waterfall about a mile up the trail that I would recommend visiting. Make sure to park at the Cosby Camgrounds but note there’s no store there, so you need to buy snacks and waters beforehand.

This place is beautiful. We stopped by for about 1 hr to take a few photos on our way to the Mouse Creek Falls. There are bathrooms for those who decide to camp so I would definitely recommend it for camping and RVs.

We did the Low Gap Trail and Sutton Ridge Overlook. It was a great trail for those just starting out or getting back into hiking. We didn't make it to the Cammerer Tower because my mom was hurting 3 miles in (she's 73 and had a knee replacement just 6 months ago) but wanted to get the experience. Some of the highlights are the serene quiet of the forest, the beautiful scenery, blossoming flowering rhododendron trees, and multiple log foot bridges crossing the streams. Even saw a rock resembling "big foot" lol. We packed some fruit and sandwiches and had a nice lunch at the picnic area at the end of the trail.

No. Dogs are not allowed on most trails in the Smokies. Google which ones they are allowed on. Its only a few. I know the can go into most state land trails.
