Placid Boatworks makes some of the best solo canoes on the market. The quality of their boats is second-to-none, and the designs are also top-notch. I appreciate working with their staff, and the attention they put into details and the customizability of each canoe. I've spent so many days of my life in the Spitfire and Rapidfire, and will continue to have some of my fondest memories exploring the Adirondack region in these canoes. Highly recommend!

I demo'd the Placid Boatworks RapidFire last Fall and was blown away by how fast it was on the open water. When I hit the smaller streams it maneuvered incredibly too. The boat is a beauty...excellent craftsmanship. It's hard to believe something this rugged can be this light. I've paddled a lot of boats in my time and this one is my favorite by far. I can't wait to paddle it once the ice is out. Joe, the owner, was friendly and very helpful. Highly recommend.

It fits with continuous velcro under the gunwale. Also has shock corded tent poles that slide through sleeves in the fabric at each thwart location to give it side-to-side pitch to shed water
You can call them up and ask where you can try their boats. The owner's name is Joe, he is very nice and will be able to assist you with your questions. We have the spitfire and very happy with our boats.
