If you're looking for an intimate wedding or event venue, Gene Stratton-Porter SHS is unmatched. We recently held our wedding ceremony in the gardens, and though it rained, I wouldn't have changed a thing. You can't beat the beauty of the gardens with the trees surrounding you, the lake just a few feet away and the wisteria hanging beautifully above the walkway. Also, the site's director, Tiffany, communicated so well with us throughout the whole planning process and was so helpful the day of, especially when we had to make split-second decisions because of the weather forecast.

We scheduled a cabin tour and trail walk. Everyone in the office and park was friendly and helpful. Our guide, Sara, was delightful, very informative, and knew her history. It was a beautiful day all around.

We first visited Gene Stratton-Porter's home in Geneva, IN, and couldn't wait to see this home in Rome City, IN. It was such a nice day for a stroll through the woods. We enjoyed her flower garden and the lovely view of Sylvan lake through …

The tour guide is engaging and knowledgeable. The house and Stratton-Porter's history are really fascinating! And the grounds are gorgeous and relaxing. I'd recommend frequent visits to see the different foliage and garden flowers; they're very different each season.

YOU DEFINITELY NEED TO RESERVE AND RENT FOR YOUR EVENT. I am a volunteer with the site and have paid $50, if memory serves me, for rental of the Carriage House (administrative building) for family get togethers. Great staff, albeit small. I have also photographed wedding portraits at this beautiful location. When you call ask to speak with site manager for more rental information. And CONGRATS on the wedding! While we are clarifying, photography companies of any kind (family portraits) are also supposed to pay a small fee for using the site. Please photographers, do not take advantage of this wonderful site and its staff.
