Terrible institution, though I guess that's just the state of trade unions in the country as a whole. Let companies abuse the workers as slaves, paying pennies, but claim they can't change anything because the share of union companies is small, which by the way is supposed to be the very thing they should be changing, but instead they 're bewildered at the union membership being at the lowest point it's been in decades. Keep this up and electricians will meet the fate of carpenters. Think twice before becoming another slave for these people.

After a six year apprenticeship and a degree in physics, I'm told I don't know enough and have to go through their program. Sounds like a money making thing to me.

IBEW Local 606 is a good place to work for inside electrical tradesman .Currently has plenty of work. The scale is lower than other regions of the US but includes a retirement annuity and great medical/dental plans exempt from Oblundercare.

Anyone have an update we are suppose to in June June
In Philadelphia Local Union 98 we negotiate a new contract every three years , and each time this is done we receive raises for those three years which allows us to have a family and raise our children and keep up with inflation. Very happy to be part of the Union, hopefully it works like this in Florida as well, being a right to work state probably effects the Union in a negative way. Be strong and keep producing professional workers, skilled labor.!
No ! Most IBEW locals did away with mixing inside and outside in the 70s. There are lineman locals all around the state though. If you're coming up in the trade the SELCAT (Southeast Lineman Constructors Apprenticeship and Training) apprenticeship program is one of the best on the nation.
It's been a bit slow lately . Tampa 915 had 2 or 3 unfilled calls recently and may have a decent amount of upcoming work . In 606 they should be manning up for the new Tron project at Disney soon . It is expected to be a 3 to 5 year project .
