I was on the list for years and I was kicked off somehow. I just used the portal couple months back and reapplied. Now I suddenly cannot find the portal site, which is not in my email they sent me. Also I cannot find out what my place is in line.

Questions & Answers

Just got a good job after being homeless for years and a honorable discharge veteran. My number came up for voucher. They told me I made to much to get help. You don't have a problem taking my taxes. Give me a jump start for 8-10 months.

How long is the wait & do anyone ever contact you I been waiting over 6 years now

You can check where you are the list yourself. They do make an attempt to contact you but not very hard. I cant remember if they call or send a letter or email. You can go into the office and make sure your info is updated and see how far up you are on the list. It's a real hassle to get a voucher and be expected to find a place but it's worth the trouble once you learn the system. You can thier main number and they're pretty easy to talk to now.

Do you guys go by people income as well

How much rent is allowed for 1 bedroom voucher

Elizabeth Davis | Jul 1, 2022
The Housing Commission of Anne Arundel County | Jul 1, 2022

The voucher program is designed to enable you to pay approximately 30% of your monthly income towards rent and utilities. That would be your portion of the rent. There are standards for how much an owner can charge for a one bedroom apartment based upon the program. Depending on the Zip Code, the 2022 standards fall between $1,010 per month up to $1,680 per month. The Zip Code determines the maximum allowable. Please consult with your specialist once you have located an apartment.

Corrin | Jan 2, 2022

Honestly I haven't received much help from them. I hope you can. But I went there and filled out all the applications I could back in 2016 I think you'll need your social security card. Then I just googled shelters.

How long is the wait normally ? I am a single mother with 3 year old.

Thank you all for commenting, requesting information and discussing our affordable housing programs. We are happy to share some information that is pertinent. First, we are constantly overwhelmed with the enormous number of citizens who are seeking help with affordable rental units and subsidies. Our waiting lists are quite large and the wait times can be anywhere from 2-10 years, depending on the program, bedroom size needed and area of the county that one wants to live within. Why? The resources are limited in our county, very limited. There is far greater demand for units and rental assistance then there are communities and vouchers. Anne Arundel County is very difficult to build new affordable housing communities; it is very expensive land and it is already very heavily developed. Our agency has worked very hard to add 60 new units in the past 2 years, and we are hoping to add more soon. But sadly, it won't be enough soon enough.
