The museum seemed to have sentimental value to those in the community as well as those who knew about it from afar. There is definitely deep history there and those whom contributed to it's restoration definitely knew about it and wanted others to learn about it also. As I walked through the building and read about some of it's history I was impressed. I had the opportunity to see some beautiful art there and meet some of the artist who were inspired to create them as well. That was not only unique but quite delightful. I do encourage any who art lovers and those who enjoy history to visit the museum. Bon Appetite!

Is this (formerly?) "Baltimore's City Life Museum?" Home of D & H Distributing, Inc.'s "Nipper - RCA mascot" monumental statue?

Yes, it was shut down with other City Life Museums in 1997 and was mainly vacant until 2017. We are restoring and reopening it now as a museum of Baltimore stories!

The Peale's collection was transferred to the Maryland Historical Society in 1997 when it was closed along with several other City Life Museums. Other than the historic Peale Museum building, our collection since reopening in 2017 has consisted of digitally-recorded Baltimore stories which we share on a wide range of platforms to help people around the world "see Baltimore in a new light." We also host exhibitions, performances, talks, and other events that share authentic stories of the city with live audiences, both in the Peale building (which is currently closed for renovations), and in partner sites in Baltimore's communities. You can find out more about our current online programming, including virtual tours and exhibitions at the Virtual Peale in Second Life, at https://ThePealeCenter.org
