We took one from fanning springs down to manatee then they drove us back. Its 9.6 miles but goes with the current (between 2-3 mph) so wasnt to bad took about 5.5 hours with a few stop an stretches. I'm with Ronnie Smith Fanny springs is a very beautiful place I live very close to there there is springs everywhere around here all you have to do is look for him to find them if you come here eat at the Dixie diner in Cross City they are so good all southern cooking!

They close the spring for swimming when a gator is sighted in the area. The volunteers/rangers do an excellent job of watching for them.

All sites have electric and water, Hickory is tent only though.

Even the Park people can't accurately predict when the manatees will be out and about. They seem to be more visible early in the morning. When we were there, in the afternoon, we saw no manatees, but the boardwalk was beautiful, the cypress knees like a community of gnomes.

We kayaked last week and paid $25 for one double kayak rental for 2 hours. We went out in the kayak for an hour and came back early. The guy was super nice and let us try paddle boarding for the 2nd hour at no extra charge.

They say the spring is 72 degrees year round, but cold as that water was, buurr!! But it's never too cold for some people to swim because it was quite a few people swimming when I went last weekend. And yes with the manatees.

We stayed a whole week and never experienced ANY ticks and we were hiking off trail everyday. I wouldn't worry. They are a state park so not going to treat anything. Bring a standard bug spray with Deet and you'll be fine. The mosquitos were our biggest problem.

No. They are not allowed on the lower deck or in the water. You can take them hiking but no swimming.

Hommosassa Springs has the boats to see them. Manatee Springs only have them in the Springs during Winter.

I was there in the summer time and there was firewood available for a cost up by when you first pull in. But they did sell it fast. You can gather wood around your campsite just be careful because you can get fined, something to do about disturbing the natural environment or something. This rarely happens but it still can do just be careful when doing so.

They add this to level the ground. Just small gravel layer that also keeps dirt out of the tent. Better tfor pop-ups as well. Level ground and no soft spots.
