http://www.andersonsoutdooradventures.com/index.html i dont remember exactly but this company brings the canoes an kayaks to several of the springs. We took one from fanning springs down to manatee then they drove us back. Its 9.6 miles but goes with the current (between 2-3 mph) so wasnt to bad took about 5.5 hours with a few stop an stretches. Even the Park people can't accurately predict when the manatees will be out and about. They seem to be more visible early in the morning. When we were there, in the afternoon, we saw no manatees, but the boardwalk was beautiful, the cypress knees like a community of gnomes.

We stayed a whole week and never experienced ANY ticks and we were hiking off trail everyday. I wouldn't worry. They are a state park so not going to treat anything. Bring a standard bug spray with Deet and you'll be fine. The mosquitos were our biggest problem.

I was there in the summer time and there was firewood available for a cost up by when you first pull in. But they did sell it fast. You can gather wood around your campsite just be careful because you can get fined, something to do about disturbing the natural environment or something. This rarely happens but it still can do just be careful when doing so.
