The entire place was alluring because of the pools. However the room we got put into had a broken door! It took all of our force to close that thing and that was from the outside! We tried to have them fix it but they refused to until we were gone because of “Covid restrictions”. They tolerated a huge safety hazard because of “Covid restrictions”. Do yourself a favor, don’t go there there are so many better, cleaner, more reliable hotels not even ten minutes down the road.

We checked in yesterday for our annual spring get-away at our favorite "old-school charm" motel in Nags Head. The office and housekeeping staff were wonderful and accommodating as always. Our room on the 3rd floor with a kitchenette and a beautiful ocean view was freshly cleaned upon our arrival. There have been several evident upgrades to the room, including new appliances in the kitchenette, since our most recent stay here last fall that really add to the freshness of the room but have not detracted from the charming motel atmosphere. The Blue Heron is pet-friendly so we can have our dogs with us which really adds to our ability to relax as a family unit. Each room has a direct outdoor entrance which makes taking the dogs in and out very easy. We love sitting on the balcony watching the waves when we are not on the beach. Although there is not an elevator, there is a luggage lift so you do not have to carry your belongings up snd down the stairs. Although we do not use them, the pools and hot tub seem to be very popular. We plan to make the Blue Heron a go-to destination for years to come!

This motel should have a board of health inspection. Inch long roach on the kitchen floor & outside deck. Self check in Sucks! Paper clip holds the shower curtain down & a hack job leaky water sink! I’m telling my family & friend don’t stay here! You should be ashamed to call this a establishment to stay at. I’m telling booking.com that you are Horrendous!

Way overpriced for a an old old motel. The only reason I give it two stars is because it was clean and it looked like an attempt was made to freshen it up. We had a first floor room. The door had a window in it with blinds that had broken slats that made it possible to look into our room. We had to get a bath towel from the bathroom to hang over the window. The view from the window was a large sand dune. The door going out to the back "porch" had a big sign that stated "Please Do Not Open This Door." In order to get to the chairs outside our door, we had to go out the front and walk around the building to get to our back porch. No thanks. There were three of us and the beds weren't much larger than a twin bed and looked like something you would find in an old dorm room. They would have been comfortable for one person but certainly not for two. The furniture looked secondhand or either like it had been there for years. There is no sound barrier at all from the above floor and the occupants of the room above us stomped around until late in the night and were up at the crack of dawn moving furniture and clomping around. It was awful. Do yourself a favor and choose one of the other nearby hotels where you will get a nice comfortable room for the same price or just a few dollars more. Wish we had done that. We won't visit this motel again.
