I wish we had done more homework prior to hiring Right at Home of Linconshire/Deerfield. They seemed so nice and assuring about their ability to provide 24/7 care for our elderly mother at her home after an accident, but they failed to show up the very first day, there were other staffing issues, and we terminated their services. We wanted a licensed and bonded company, and owners Matt and Rachel Field seemed great, but when one of their staff stole jewelry from the home the very first week, and it turned out that the individual care provider they sent had been arrested by Arlington Heights Police for stealing from someone else, Owner Matt Field told me he wouldn't communicate further with us and that we needed to deal directly with THEIR insurance company!!! That attitude warrants scrutiny.

Terrible communication especially HR manager Jill. I reached out to Jill about a verification of employment. Did not respond. I had to keep calling to reach her. It was a miscommunication and misunderstanding that was not “Clarified” until a week and a day later. Rudeness is all I got from this company.

Right at Home, Heather the franchise owner, and all the staff we’re excellent In caring for my mother. What I really liked was the replacement even at the last minute of a caregiver. They have a system that if your caregiver is sick or can’t come to work at the last minute, they will send another person. If a home health care worker can not get there then someone from the office will take the shift. This was extremely important for us as my mother had Alzheimer’s and could not be left alone. Before using right at home we used another agency and some private healthcare workers we paid independently. It felt like if someone called in sick it was my job to find a replacement and that became impossible. So I hired right at home and they took over.If my mother didn’t like a caregiver they were very flexible and sent another. I highly recommend them.

I waited for my first paycheck and it took 3 weeks to get paid. My real complaint is I have a signed contract with the owner Rachel, but they short changed me $9.00. Now when I call they won't let me speak to Rachel or it goes to answering service. Boy, she loved speaking to me when she signed me up. Lol Ugly agency to work for when most agencies pay you every week. This one pays every 2 weeks. Bluch! Update: I have been paid my $9.00. Thank You!

Questions & Answers

Is using a home care agency better than hiring a private caregiver?

Right at Home | Aug 29, 2022
Right at Home | Aug 29, 2022

Right at Home takes care of screening and vetting caregivers, and conducting caregiver background checks so you don’t have to. You can save yourself a great deal of time and enjoy peace of mind knowing that a team of experienced professionals has your back. Families who hire independent caregivers must take on the responsibilities of being an employer, which includes performing their own caregiver background checks, managing payroll and tax withholdings, and providing professional liability insurance. There are no backup caregivers for sick days, and it can be challenging to locate, hire and train caregivers.

Are your caregivers insured?

Yes. Every caregiver is employed by our local Right at Home office. To help ensure the safety and well-being of our clients, we perform a criminal history background clearance and then cover each caregiver with general liability and workers’ compensation insurance. Be wary of agencies that claim the caregivers are “independent contractors.” In most cases, caregivers do not qualify as “independent contractors” according to tax and labor laws.
