I hired Devin and his team to record a professional classical choral performance recently. Devin was extremely collaborative, showed up to meeting to walk the venue, provided a competitive price for the project, and stayed in communication throughout until the project was completed to my satisfaction, open to customization requests in post-production. I highly recommend Ethos Media for this and other video recording services.

Questions & Answers

How should I prepare someone to interview on camera for a testimonial video?

Gina Lee | Jul 30, 2022
Ethos Media | Jul 30, 2022

There are a number of ways to prepare. The most important is to actually ask the questions of the interviewee ahead of time, so they can better prepare their responses and so the interviewer knows what to expect. They can then be better prepared to ask follow-up questions for elaboration during filming. Other things that can be done is to hire a professional makeup artist for those self-conscience about their appearance. You can also send photos of the place they'll be interviewed in or perhaps choose a venue they're already comfortable with. During the process, the interviewer should be coaching the interviewee throughout, encouraging them and also being honest about the feedback they're giving. Helping them re-word statements into a more soundbite-friendly format is also a good idea. All of this is something we do as a professional video production company. Thanks for your question!

What types of animation are there for marketing videos and which one should I use?

Michelle Carrillo | Jul 30, 2022
Ethos Media | Jul 30, 2022

There are three main types of animation commonly used within the scope of corporate/commercial video. The first type is simply still-graphics or text superimposed on screen through the use of a video transition. This content is typically designed within the video editing software or something like Adobe Photoshop and is generally pretty easy and inexpensive to create. The second type of animation is motion graphics which puts some kind of advanced motion and/or special effect to 2D still graphics. Motion graphics are the most commonly used form of animation. Logo reveals, explainer animations, advanced text effects, complex shape animations, and others are all typically composed as motion graphics created in Adobe After Effects. The last type of animation is 3D, and this is the most sophisticated and consequently most expensive and time-consuming form of animation. This animation involves creation of depth, texture, lighting, and advanced motion or effects within a 3D environment.

Should I consider hiring a spokesperson or voiceover for my video or do it myself?

Brena Nelson | Jul 30, 2022
Ethos Media | Jul 30, 2022

A spokesperson is an additional expense but often times a necessary one within a budget for a commercial-based video. They're trained to look and sound good on camera. This often translate to a more energetic presentation and less time on set from repeatedly redoing lines. Also, a spokesperson means that your content is generally more evergreen compared to an internal team member that could potentially leave your company later on. Furthermore, a spokesperson may better appeal to a particular demographic you're trying to reach just by their inherent characteristics alone. Speaking on camera is a skill similar to public speaking. It's not something that is natural to everyone, so even with assistance from teleprompter and a director, you still may want to consider hiring a professional to ensure your content is presented effectively.

I'm hosting an event. What costs should I plan for to get it recorded?

Ashley S. | Jul 30, 2022
Ethos Media | Jul 30, 2022

Hi, Ashley. Thanks for the question! Public events typically involve A/V for the event itself, so if this is separately contracted through the venue or a third party, we can typically interface with them for lighting and audio necessary for video recordings. If you haven't made such arrangements then that's a cost to account for. The amount of manned cameras we operate is also another significant factor in addition to any other personnel that may be involved in facilitating the event, handling audio, or managing a live streaming platform. Check if your venue provides internet, as a temporary drop can get expensive, fast! Lastly, discussion on any post-production for videos produced from your event is something to account for to ensure the end product is customized properly to meet your needs.

Should I try to leave stream if cellular internet is the only connection available??

Brittany Rae | Jul 30, 2022
Ethos Media | Jul 30, 2022

Hi Brittany, I'm assuming your question is more in regards to live streaming off of a cellular internet connection and whether or not that's a viable option. The short answer is, it depends. LTE and 5G have the speed potential to broadcast a 1080 HD stream, and we have done so for our clients before. Sometimes a consumer-grade hotspot generator can do the trick, but there are more professional cellular internet devices available for an added fee. That said, in places further away from cellular towers like some suburbs and certainly in more rural areas, the speed and reliability of cellular internet can drop off considerably. We never opt for hosting a stream off cellular internet unless there is literally no other option. Anyone wanting to host a stream should consider what options are available with a more reliable wired or WiFi network at their venue, and if streaming off WiFi, it should ideally be done on a network that is not shared by a bunch of other devices.

In addition to recording events for edited videos, what are your live broadcasting/streaming capabilities?

Trigg Watson | Jun 30, 2022
Ethos Media | Jul 30, 2022

Hi Trigg. Thank you for asking about our live streaming process. The basics of what we can do with live streaming boil down to a multi-camera shoot, the amount of which is determined by the nature of the content, budget, and what production value clients want to create for their broadcast. Cameras can be toggled between at our discretion during the broadcast. Another important aspect is the incorporation of pre-recorded media and on-screen graphics that can enhance the presentation and, more importantly, provide a call-to-action to viewers. We can also manage interaction with viewers across multiple, simultaneous stream platforms, if broadcasting on a channel that has a chat room or place to leave comments.
