Apologies if we missed a question. What are your questions, Teri?
Diane, John is correct, shredded paper is no longer accepted in the blue bin. If loose it ends up as litter, if stapled shut in a bag (as we used to suggest people do), the sorting facility can not open the bags up (the process moves too fast these days for that to happen). Check out this link - scroll to the bottom "Shredded Paper" section (https://ocrra.org/how-do-i-get-rid-of/confidential-documents/) to find ways to manage your shredded paper (you can recycle it by dropping it off to a specific location OR you can put it in your trash where it will be converted to electricity at the Waste-to-Energy Facility (each year our community's trash is turned into enough electricity to power 30,000 homes!).
Where can I get rid of 2 love seats, end tables, small 2'x3' coffee table, 2 office chairs, twin mattress, entertainment desk ,a tv and some smaller odds and ends.
Empty gas cans can go in the trash (they must be completely empty though, no liquid). :)
They may take it at Ley Creek or they may not if it has dangerous chemicals such as freon. Call OCRRA to be sure. You may also want to put it out by the curb for junk dealers.
OCRRA accepts household air conditioners at our Ley Creek Transfer Station in Liverpool. You can check out this link for hours, directions and fees: https://ocrra.org/locations/drop-off-locations/ley-creek/
Ray, OCRRA does not have a shredding event scheduled for 2021. You can read more about why and also get coupons for area shredders we are partnering with for 50% off their normal shredding fees for household materials in 2021: https://ocrra.org/how-do-i-get-rid-of/confidential-documents/
Hi Joe, Contact your trash hauler directly to see if they will accept them for curbside pick up. If they will not, you may deliver them to OCRRA's Ley Creek Transfer Station in Liverpool. Check out this link for details on location, hours and fees:https://ocrra.org/locations/drop-off-locations/ley-creek/
Mike, check out this link for details on how to properly dispose of sharps: https://ocrra.org/how-do-i-get-rid-of/sharps/
Hi, your dried out latex paint can go in the trash. Lid off. If you have any liquid latex, check out this link for details on proper disposal:https://ocrra.org/how-do-i-get-rid-of/latex-paint/ You can make a household hazardous waste appointment to drop off your gasoline, fluorescent bulbs and any other household toxics you may have here: https://ocrra.org/services/dispose/household-toxics-drop-off/ Air conditioner: https://ocrra.org/how-do-i-get-rid-of/air-conditioner/ I hope this helps. :)
Check out this page for details on fire extinguisher disposal: https://ocrra.org/how-do-i-get-rid-of/fire-extinguishers/
Kathleen, check out this link for details: https://ocrra.org/how-do-i-get-rid-of/air-conditioner/
Are you looking to dispose of a 42" TV only? OCRRA does not accept these items. But, here is a link to other places in Onondaga County where you can recycle them: https://ocrra.org/resources/electronics/
Yes, they can be recycled with your other papers. :)
You can put it in thir general trash and the metal will be reclaimed and recycled at the Waste-to-Energy Facility. More than 10,000 tons of metal are recycled through the facility that way each year. https://ocrra.org/services/dispose/waste-to-energy/
The inside brown roll, yes! :)
Elizabeth, if it is not donatable, you may bring it to Bruin Recycling in Liverpool (http://www.bruinrecycling.com/drop-off/) or put it in your trash. :) (This is Kristen from OCRRA). :)
Terry, no. The Ley Creek Transfer Station cannot accept yardwaste. You can visit either of our Compost Sites for that. Check out this link for directions and hours and fees:https://ocrra.org/locations/compost-locations/ (The Amboy location is open today and Saturday; the Jamesville Site is not open for the season until next Thursday).
If they are clean and dry, yes they can be recycled at big box retail stores, chain pharmacies and grocery stores. :)
Hi Christine, Thanks for asking a great question. If your cereal bag is definitely plastic (so not the wax paper kind) and it is clean (so no food residue inside) you can recycle it with your other plastic bags at the grocery store. :) Have a great day!
The 2019 schedule has not yet been set, but please check back next month or consider joining OCRRA's email list (sign up at the bottom of Ocrra.org) as we'll notify folks via email. :) Thank you.
Samantha, are they empty or do they contain paint? If they contain paint, what type? Latex or oil-based?
Robin, metal keys cannot go in the blue bin, but if you put them in the trash in Onondaga County, they go to the Waste-to-Energy Facility. There, metal items are pulled out for recycling using magnets and an eddy current separator (we pull out both ferrous and non-ferrous metals). So, if you put them in the trash, they will still get recycled. Each year around 10,000 tons of metal is pulled out of our community's trash and recycled at the Waste-to-Energy Facility. You can watch a short video about the process here: https://ocrra.org/services/dispose/waste-to-energy/
Beth, Apologies on our delay in responding. This item is not hazardous and can go in the trash.
You can bring a dehumidifier to the Ley Creek Transfer Station. They are closed on the 4th, but open back up on the 5th at 6:30 am. https://ocrra.org/locations/drop-off-locations/ley-creek/#fees
