Never visiting this museum as they sent away the endangered bird species due to their "oh let's create a walking trail". This is what National Geographic states: Renovations to the Chicago History Museum in 2021 drove black-crowned night herons away from their annual breeding grounds. The birds have not returned, conservationists say. Teams of workers arrived in March of 2021, just before the herons’ annual springtime nesting season. The crews operated loud equipment at times only a few yards from the rookery. Soon after, the birds abandoned their nests. Weeks later, crows were seen scavenging on dead nestlings. In 2022, a handful of male herons returned to the site, but after failing to attract mates, they left.

My husband and I came from out of town to visit the Abakanowicz Research Center for an out of print book. About a week beforehand, I had emailed in the middle of the night and they got back to me first thing in the morning with information. I then made a reservation for a weekday afternoon, the day of our flight. Navigating and parking was easy enough, there is information on the website. We made our way inside the museum's front entrance and were directed to the elevator up to the research center after confirming our reservation. Once upstairs, we signed in and they immediately handed me the book I had emailed about. Everyone there was very nice and extremely helpful. On our way out of the research center, we stopped and looked at a few displays near the door and learned a few very interesting things. We did the same thing on our way out of the museum area. I wish we had more time to spend there that day. I'd 100% recommend a visit.

Management
Some residents were left homeless and set up tents in what is now Lincoln park zoo. Chicago being a railroad hub brought supplies in rapidly so the city rebuilt rapidly!
Chicago burned down and, like Phoenix from the ashes, a new city arose. That's why Chicago is also known as the second city.
High winds, extremely dry conditions, and lots of combustibles.
Elevators are available.
As far as I know Best to check as there were some days in December but normally Tuesdays are free for Illinois residents. Need an I'd driver's license to prove.
Yes my photography class went there!
