Update: Not the same welcoming feel. The Refuge has become impersonal and policy driven. Our family became ill with Covid the day before our reservation. I called to see if we could reschedule, not cancel... rescheduled. I was told the 24 hour policy covers that and the reservation could not rescheduled. I could however go back to the roverpass.com site and make a new reservation, but I would still lose my current money for the current reservation??? I was told there are no exceptions. I asked even for illness and was told no. So, we are trying to decide do we go sick or lose our money. I was also told I could have purchase the insurance at checkout when making the reservation...? What insurance? There is no option for travel insurance on roverpass.com as of today 06/28/22 for the Refuge Campground. BEWARE THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS WHEN YOU MAKE YOUR RESERVATION! At the end of the call, the lady asked if I wanted to cancel? I answered... Why would I do that? I will lose my money! I am miss Ron, the previous manager. He was accommodating and ran the place well. I sent a follow up email to the email on the site this morning. I have yet to see a response as of 6pm. For the record, I know the policy is clearly posted, but I was hoping since I was trying to reschedule and not cancel there might be a way to accommodate our current circumstance. I have had things come up with other KOA reservations in the past and they have always worked with us. As much as I hate it, this will be our last stay at The Refuge on Roanoke Island. Update: Margaret called me the next day regarding review and not happy about "disinformation" about claiming no Travel Insurance available at checkout. For the record, I again began placing a reservation for August that same morning to see again if no travel insurance available. Made all the way to the confirmation reservation and Travel Insurance was NOT even offered AGAIN. Her claim was that it was available when I made my reservation was made a couple of months ago. For record, I did not make reservation a couple of months ago, I made the reservation the week before and it was not offered anywhere in checkout. Now understanding several in our party were Covid positive, she offered a 50% refund. I assume so we would not come to avoid losing our money. That was June 29th, as of today - July 13th we have yet to see any REFUND... ???

Enjoyed our stay at this lovely campground! Had a great view of the water. There's no office to check in. The park manager will most likely see you when you pull in, and show you to your site. If not, just the call number. Great place to stay and enjoy OBX and the charming town of Manteo. We would definitely stay here again.

Nice RV park! The on site pleasant personable manager was around told us the rules as he should as it is his job. He is doing a great job: the bathrooms, pool, laundry, dock/boardwalk, and grassy areas are clean and orderly. It is a very nice place to stay.

Can’t say enough good things about this place! Smallish campground nicely located on Roanoke Island. Our camper backed right up to the edge of a lovely lake. Nice boardwalks through the marsh. Immaculate and freshly painted bath house. Yet, very affordable. It’s a winner!
