Isaac has the best customer service and is very knowledgeable. He can't play the guitar very well , but at least he knows his work to get a construction job done.

Questions & Answers

Do I need primer when plastering over paint on an existing wall?

While not mandatory, we highly recommend using a primer before plastering over paint since your results will be significantly superior. Call or stop by the store: we’ll be happy to walk you through the proper process and guide you to the right materials.

What is the difference between water-based stain and acid stain?

Surface FX | Sep 28, 2020
Surface FX | Sep 28, 2020

Water-based stains are non-reactive: pigment and polymers suspended in water or acetone are deposited on the concrete and bond to it as the solvent evaporates. Acid-based stains (reactive or chem stains) generate their color as a small amount of hydrochloric acid and metallic salts react with the calcium hydroxide of the concrete -- colors tend to run to earth tones.

Can I stain over a sealed surface?

Surface FX | Sep 28, 2020
Surface FX | Sep 28, 2020

It is indeed possible to apply a stain over a painted or sealed floor, but surface preparation is key. Come by the store: describe your project and we’ll be happy to walk you through the process and guide you to the right product for your needs.

What is an epoxy?

Surface FX | Sep 28, 2020
Surface FX | Sep 28, 2020

Epoxies are a class of structural adhesives that are valuable for their wide range of adherence to different surface materials, their impressive strength, and how well they resist creep under continued load stress.

What's the difference between epoxy and polyurethane?

Surface FX | Sep 28, 2020
Surface FX | Sep 28, 2020

Epoxy flooring tends to be harder and more brittle than polyurethane flooring which is very flexible and elastic; polyurethane flooring is therefore appropriate for areas where heavy foot traffic or wear and tear would cause epoxy flooring to crack or more quickly look worn. Epoxy flooring is easier to install, however, and is more appropriate for areas where there is a lot of moisture. If you have questions about the specific characteristics of these types of coatings and which one will perform best under your unique project conditions, call or come by the store and we’ll be happy to guide you to the right product for your needs.

When should you stain vs micro-top?

Surface FX | Sep 28, 2020
Surface FX | Sep 28, 2020

Smooth concrete surfaces in good condition are ideal for receiving stains for uniform or mottled surface looks achieved solely through color. Micro-toppings (thin overlays of concrete) can be used to restore color patched or damaged concrete surfaces. They can also be used when more decorative, complex patterning is desired that sits flush with the floor.

I have limestone counters in my kitchen. They need to be cleaned and resealed w a protective product. Your Surface FX Gloss was recommended but I’m not certain that is appropriate. Not many sealers are recommended for limestone.Your recommendation?
