The visitor center sits across from Cape Lookout Lighthouse. It offers a museum with information about the lighthouse and its history. Located beside the center is a ticket area to purchase tickets for a ferry to the lighthouse, one of the only ways to see it up close, (ferry or personal boat). The area is kept very well and inviting, the staff we spoke with,(Rangers and store personnel), were very friendly and helpful.

Didn’t spend too much time here, but staff was helpful in purchasing tickets for the ferry. When we got back to the visitor’s center they also had a food truck, Shark Island Eats, stationed in the parking lot where we had some excellent fish tacos and fried oreos!

Friendly and helpful staff- we bought tickets and road the ferry to the lighthouse and back.

We took the ferry over to Cape Lookout National Seashore from the visitor center. It was very windy the day we went so we decided to take the shuttle truck to the point. We found lots of nice shells there. We decided to walk back to the Lighthouse instead of using the shuttle truck. On the ferry ride back to the visitor center, the ferry driver slowed down so we could photograph the wild horses on Shackleford Island. We enjoyed our day very much.

Just a few miles by car. You will need a 4 wheel drive vehicle though
This is a visitor center so I'm not sure how reservations would be relevant.
