If I could rate below one star I would. Today I called informing there was an 8 week old puppy who was on the beach at 12pm. Not only was this dog attending during unapproved hours BUT the owners were in fact dunking the puppy under the water, dragging him through the sand, and did not have any water for the dog. We went up to ask if the puppy even had it shots and they owners stated he was so little they hadn’t got it yet. This was a white dog whose skin was literally turning pink in the sun because it did not have much hair as it was a Pit puppy. I called the beach patrol informing them of the concerns with the puppy and i was told “our hands are tied.” The person answering the phone told me there was nothing he could do since it “could” be a service dog. I informed him it wasn’t and he asked how I knew. I explained since I have a service dog, there is no way an 8 week puppy could have been specific disability task trained let alone be task trained on a beach. South Carolina laws state that If it is not apparent what your service animal does, the establishment may ask you only whether it is a service animal, and what tasks it performs for you. I explained that I had asked if the dog was a service dog and found that it was not due to the owners own verbal expression that it wasn’t. Mind you this dog was the length of a water bottle. I was repeatedly told “there was nothing they could do, and their hands were tied” even though they would not even try to help this poor puppy that was getting drowned under the waves. So disappointed in the Cherry Grove Beach Patrol, thought they were supposed actually patrol the beach and help.

I need to make this public. Myself and my 2 children were swimming in the Ocean in front of Meridian Plaza and if it weren't for the 2 lifeguards on duty...i think we would have drowned ! Whoever those 2 guys are ....are amazing ! Heroes. Happened about 1 pm on August 17th
