I discovered this place on one of many trips to LA but never could find the time to stop until recently. Great way to spend a few hours seeing relics of the past and how life has changed over the years. Has some really fascinating items and stories of the lives. I wish it had more! Make sure to bring water boots/tennis shoes...unless dry flip flips/sandels not a good idea.

Bought a tix for both the Rural Life Museum and the Gardens. I was the first there and it was very calm and peaceful. Circa 1850, the house and various buildings, including slave quarters, were very interesting. The Gardens were beautiful even with a storm coming that cut the visit short.

This was a pretty cool place to see history and old buildings. The garden they had was fun to explore but as I was told it is possible to get lost so just be careful and have fun exploring.

$10 for adults, $8 for children. Under six are free.
Depends. I agree with Ioic overall. If you start checking details, 2 to 3 hours. Cursory? 1 hour or so? If you go on a day that they gave costumed docents with more information? 2 to 3 hours. A lot of it is the buildings outside and their history.
My recall is that Mr. Burden placed stipulations in the will about inheritance and rights. LSU did get control but either they don't own it or else have conditions on use. You asked who owns it so I assume you want the legal owner and condition of ownership. If you want that you will need to call ask them. If you just want to know if it is affiliated to LSU , the answer is yes.
