This place is a must for the natives who've been fishing here since before Katrina. Police run you off after 10PM at the lakefront so night fishing now is difficult. We need this pier back! Beuracracy stalled them from repairing then and is stalling now after Ida. Recommended attending council meetings and put a lighter underneath their @$$. This little town became snobby after the post Katrina development and with the money they take from us now, they can afford it

I wonder when they are going to get this place back together?

They first need to reconstuct it which Is going to take some time because they are in the process in starting the phase of building a berm between Mandeville Lakefront to Sunset Point. It would be ideal that the city fixed the piers first but either way in time, the Piers and park will be restored to Pre-Hurricane Ida.
I believe most officials urge that visitors stay on the pier, or on the paved walks & lots.
Its closed because of the damage the pier took during Hurricane Ida. The park itself is open however the pier is unwalkable.
The Lake is brackish, receiving freshwater from Lake Maurepas, the Tangipahoa and Tchefuncte Rivers, Bayous Lacombe and Bonfouca, as well as drainage canals, and saltwater from the Gulf of Mexico. This combination and the resultant surrounding wetlands form a complex estuarine ecosystem
Temporarily closed due the destruction of Hurricane Ida. The sign you speak of was during Covid's uncertainty. Otherwise they do offer a 24 hour access schedule being most fishermen fish solely at night til early mornings. It is patrolled by Mandeville Police Department and live safety cameras. The ladies and gentlemen that fish for sport take it seriously and usually let the traffic from the youth die down before transitioning them out for the sport.
No. The people that do fish here take it quite seriously and are usually equipped with their own sporting tools. You can try Super Walmart in Covington however for a pole.
The pier is down at the moment due to Ida but to answer your question for regular operational hours , yes you can crab but you would need a longer rope at the piers railings are a bit higher. Im not sure it would be very comfortable but yes you can crab.
Yes, The redfish bite in May is great and will continue throughout the summer. Usually associated with a trout bite, diving seagulls in Lake Pontchartrain tend to be a signal that redfish are underneath especailly along the Northern shoreline of Lake Pontchartrain. No suggesting it though if you understand what's in the lake.
It's open nice water today wonderful skies and great day for fishing! Enjoy n please keep up with trash.
