Some rude staff. My mom was there for a broken leg. Before my dad took her out, they left her to share a room with a patient who had contagious bacterial infection. Food sometimes cold.

It is a sad reflection on our society that we allow our elders to be cared for by for-profit private investment groups. My mother had gone to PBN&R multiple time for rehab after injuries. Its large staff was overall very caring, kind, and compassionate. It was a nice, clean, homey place that prioritized the welfare of their residents. A few years ago, the company was sold to a for-profit investment group. (Let that sink in for a minute; for-profit investing in the care our ailing vulnerable elderly). During these last few years, staffing has dwindled, the food quality has suffered and the cleanliness and overall care provided to residence has atrophied. We are told of staffing shortages- while that is a problem in many industries in our area, most get along by offering more competitive pay and benefits. I am guessing that isn't the case here because there has been an exodus of local care givers and other staff at PBN&R in the past couple of years -some to other local elder care facilities. To be clear, there still are several on the staff who are are caring and doing the best they can. I am thankful they are still working there. In general, however, when concerns are brought up to the staff- they deflect to management. When you contact management, they assure you they are resolving the issues. The issues are seldom resolved. I hope all families and friends of nursing home residents will be inquiring and vocal about the shortcomings in the facilities that are paid through private and public funds to provide care with respect and dignity to our loved ones.

All healthcare facilities have a bill of patient rights. Policies differ for each facility, long-term care facilities, assisted living facilities and hospitals can have different policies related to patient care, safety and COVID guidelines. For example a hospital may use restraints and use full bed rails for safety of a patient but in a long-term care facility they are considered a form of restraint that hinders a patient's movement and are not allowed. Certain medications in a long-term facility cannot be used due to being considered a "chemical restraint"per state regulations Very complicated at times and has led to an increased risk of falls in confused residents. If concerned always talk to the administrator or the director of nurses to clarify any concerns and ask about policies specific to that facility.
