Beachcomber in Wellfleet

Been going here for well over ten years. I enjoyed the crab cakes they served a few years back. My kids and wife were content. Last summer just the wife and I visited and it was OK. Cocktails very good and food a little disappointing to say the least. This past summer went back as I thought it was a favorite of my wife's. She had her usual fish tacos (which were meh) and a good cocktail. I tried the fried calamari which had a pasty coating that were disgusting. I did not say anything as I thought my wife was enjoying a night out with a beautiful view. The scallops were mediocre at best. The Kendall Jackson Chardonnay I had was terrible and I doubt it was what I ordered and paid for -- It was not drinkable. I left it on the table without a complaint and ordered a can of beer - a much safer choice. Another night we had the fish tacos (wife) and for me the fish and chips and some awful chowder. Wife enjoyed her cocktail, I went with a nice can of beer. The fish and chips were - well - I can only guess that you would be better off with a Fillet O Fish sandwich at McDonalds. When we left I asked what my wife liked about the Beachcomer as the food did not seem all that great. She replied that she likes to visit to take pictures of the beach area . She said the food was never great but that now it was NOT worth the trip there nor the price. Dinner for two -- one app, two entrees, four drinks for $160.00. The server was delightful and deserved her generous tip. If you want a drink -- its fine. If you want something edible - bring a sandwich for the beach.

Absolutely the best Clam Chowder and I traveled the upper East Coast from Boston to Maine with stops in Cape Cod, New Hampshire and New Bedford, simply the best tasting and had I known that I'd have just eat more but the Fish and Chips were good too.
