Awesome awesome place really cool place with artifacts from The Andy Griffith show and Matlock
S T P Pearson
If you are a fan of Andy Griffith, particularly a fan of the Andy Griffith Show, I recommend this place. There are plenty of pictures and memorabilia from when Andy was a little boy all the way up to the era past Matlock. They have some of the actual clothes that the cast members wore while making the show (including Otis Campbell's well worn hat and jacket). If you don't know who Andy Griffith was, or you hated his TV shows, I recommend going elsewhere, so you don't waste your time and money. The nearby downtown area has lots of tourist trap amenities (e.g., candy, T-shirts, goofy hats, that knickknack you buy because you think it's genius when you bought it, but you wonder why you wasted money on it ten years later when you are cleaning out your sock drawer because you are moving, so you donate it to a charity, etc.), if you like that sort of thing.

It is a heart warming walk down memory lane. Thinking back on my childhood days of watching it with my parents. They could step it up a little, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. $8 fee.
Yes
Very much. Wonderful place to visit. Make sure you take a ride with Barney
Not every day anymore.
Yes. $40 per ride.
They have a sign asking you to, but the majority of the guest wasnt wearing them.
Please call the museum. They are very nice to talk with and she should clear that up for you
Anytime is great time to visit the Andy Griffith Museum, because there open year around. But I have a suggestion, spring time is a great time to visit, its not cold or not to hot of weather in the spring time, and the Blue Ridge Parkway is near Mt Airy and the parkway is open year around but most exhibits, visiting centers, bathrooms, etc on the Blue Ridge Parkway are closed in winter months, until mid April.. so if the Blue Ridge Parkway is also something you might be interested in while visiting Mt Airy, spring time is great. But anytime is good for visiting the museum. Something to think about the summer time is more crowded after school is out, for summer vacation. I do recommend the Andy Griffth Museum, my family enjoyed it a lot. The Mt Airy Museum of Regional History is also a great museum in Mt Airy.
Yes. It's called "Mayberry Day's ". Not sure when it's held or duration. I think it's a whole week.
Yes. There are several places to stay nearby. Free parking at the museum, on main Street, and 2 municipal parking lots. The downside to downtown is a lot of the shops close around 5pm.
Visit the chamber of commerce down town the lady in there will hook you up it's right beside Barney's grill
Yes, $40 bucks a car load I believe was the price to ride for a short tour.
They're open 7 days a week except for Christmas & Thanksgiving. Hours on Sunday's are 1-5pm.
Mt. Airy is like any city some places are pet friendly some are not.
I saw smaller RVs parked there in the parking lot right beside the main entrance.
There is close by if there parking lot has a lot of cars.
Not sure, but my guess is they are closed on Christmas Day.
We prefer you buy food at available cafes Andy's foods Restaurant thank you for your financial support
The road that runs beside the museum which allows parking is accessible to be vans and tractor trailers. We were there for Mayberry Day and Surrey County Arts Festival a few weeks ago and there were several big travel campers,5th Wheels and hugh tour busses that were being allowed to park on some of the side roads; easily accessible to the museum across the street. Hope this helps.
you can ride the trolly
Apparently not, because Coca-Cola is being sold in the county there .
Believe it was $8 plus great buffet Chinese restaurant minutes away just fantastic and under $10 per person. Of course getting there highways were practically number to number. Indoor flea market not to far away and it's huge plus a smaller one as well. If got a GPS it take you to both. Just remember this museum is about Andy Griffith you see or hear very little about the show but you see Don Knott's dress suit plus the town drunk suit and hat..I personally injoyed Betty Lou exhibit.
Yes 8 and change for museum, 40 a trip to ride in the police car and tour on main
You just need warm clothes, it's usually mild this time of year.
Not sure, we were there for Mayberry Days this year, visited the museum, but didn't see her. If you have never been to Mount Airy, it's definitely worth it!
You will be glad you paid the small fee to go through it. It is definitely worth it.
Really depends on how much you want to read! An hour is probably sufficient but could be quicker if you don't read everything
We were there during their yearly festival. I suggest you go then. Biggest festival I ever saw. Lots of vendors and music. I am from MI so you will have to contact them directly for more info.
Yes but good idea to check with them first.
I didn't see anything other than t shirts, books, and trinkets for sale
I believe we stayed at the Comfort Inn.. it was clean..
