Dr. Murali is a great guy. He is a straight shooter and tells you like it is. He does not sugar coat anything. I appreciate that in a doctor. Been a patient for 5 years and will continue to be.

Do u have to have a referral

If you have some type sof insurance that are managed by insurance companies very tightly, they expect you to be referred t me by your primary care physician or provider. I see patients referred to me from all local and regional primary care Medicine practices. Your insurance card often also indicates if that referral is needed.

What happens if I have an outdated insurance card, a card that expires before procedure or forgot to give the office all the insurance cards?

To save you a major expense and heartache, we will actually verify your insurance. If it is invalid you will get a text message or email from billing service( make sure all your contact information is precise and current in our records) . If you ignore it and we proceed with elective procedure, you will be responsibe for the bill. The insurance companies WILL NOT honor any charges that crop up from services before a valid card was issued. Please DO NOT ignore text messages from the billing company.

At any age, aiming for very high leve of fitness prevents muscle atrophy and bone loss. These two things will ensure enjoyment of life and higher mobility. Regular exercisses and weight training will decrease Blood pressure to near normal levels and decrease stroke risk. Many of my patients exercise with me in the gym! Orangeburg Calhoun Free Clinic is going through the Colorectal Cancer Network to get free colonoscopies for patients at high risk , free of charge. Do you offer assistance for free to patients of the clinic?

I am a private practice. I do not have ANY federal or local funds to help indigent patients. Our office charges for screening colonoscopy will be reduced to $550 for your clinic patients. This barely covers my cost of running the practice. The anesthetist who is self employed charges from $150-200 depending on the procedure. These charges are about 20% of what the hospital typically charges self-pay patients and about 40% what an ASC will charge for screening colonoscopy. I hope this information helps.

What is the value of colonoscopy over stool tests for cancer of colon? Has the age recommendation for cancer screening changed?

At age 45 insurance companies will allow a colonoscopy. It is certainly a better test as moden scopes are very accurate, provide good view of colon and allow removal of early cancers and even very large polyps at the same time, sparing you major surgery. In most people the value of a normal exam lasts 10 years or more. The exam is painless, takes 10-30 minutes and you will be comfortable with sedation during the procedure. https://abcnews.go.com/Health/colorectal-cancer-screenings-urged-us-deaths-top-52000/story?id=83330987

RE: Colonoscopy prep. What can I do to get the most benefit from my upcoming colonoscopy?

eRemember this is a very important procedure, potentially life-saving if polyps and early cancers can be detected and removed. If the visibility is good, it is safe and easy to remove these early cancerous lesions. A high quality prep ensures faster and more reliable procedure ( you will be under sedation for shorter time). To get the prep right, follow the instructions to the letter. 1) DO NOT eat solid food the entire day before procedure 2) Stay on clear gatorade the whole day and when you start the prep follow the instructions provided to you in the office 3) make sure you take your usual meds unless the doctor has specifically asked you to avoid one or more drugs 4) Finish your prep 3 hours before your scheduled time. 5) We use split preps to ensure thorough cleaning. It is preferable to re-schedule your procedure if you slip up and have e poor prep.

Dr. Narayanachar S. Murali, MD | Sep 27, 2021

All our staff are immunized. It makes it less likely we will cause you a COVID infection. However if you are not immunized, you must wear a mask and also alert my staff and they will wear a mask to offer additional protection to you. We follow the most current CDC guidelines to ensure best practices in infection prevention and control
