We totally enjoyed our visit, yesterday, wish we had been able to stay longer. The quilts were amazing and we learned aot of history that we weren't taught in school!

Unfortunately didn't learn much about the Gullah culture. Spent 90 mins listening to Mr Rodriguez tell me about his wife's Michelle Obama quilt, 2 other quilts, the slave trade, rice plantations, a lot of his personal history. He's fascinating and knowledgeable and cab talk forever! He asks for a $10 donation. Advise you to say you only have a few minutes to look around!

We were there from 10:45 am till 1:45, no breaks. The owner Mr. Rodrigues talked alot! I went with intentions of learning about the Gullah culture and honestly I can say I walked out learning very little about the Gullah culture but I learned a lot about Mr. Rodrigues life history and Barack Obamas life. He is soft spoken so at some point you will fall asleep. He is an amazing man and a extremely intelligent, just got off track. This is not a free event, he will ask for $10 per person and if you accidentally pull out more money he has no problem stating that he will take that too.

The griot there has many stories to tell. He reminds me of the oracle.

It is free they ask for a donation. The older man that was telling stories had played basketball for the Celtics and he was quite interesting. His wife was Gullah and she's the one that started the museum. Unfortunately she is no longer with us but he continues. Quite small but well worth the visit
It is handicap accessible but very small room with difficulty of wheel chair to move throughout the room.
I would guess the museum is no more than 1/2 mile off of 17.
