Well, I don’t know exactly about a purchase done outside NC and then title and registration in NC. I moved from WI to NC and I showed NC DL, WI title, proof of insurance, residence proof and FS-1. Proof of insurance and FS-1 can be provided by a registered insurance agent in NC. My car wasn’t financed. First, they’ll title the car and once that’s done, they’ll issue physical license plate. Both things were done in a single day.

However you will need a valid NORTH CAROLINA ID or NC drivers license and they do not provide drivers license service at this location. The vehicle may not need an inspection. When you title the vehicle in your name the title clerk can tell you weather it needs inspection or not. If you do need a temp tag you will have to have your NCDL $10 for the tag and $5.00 cash for the notary.

Hi Dave, If the plate is not expired it will need to be turned in. You can mail it to our office with a pre-addressed postage paid envelope and we will mail you a receipt. Don't cancel the insurance until the plate is turned in.
