REI doesn't have much in the way of skiing equipment in-store regardless of location around Atlanta. They may have a few more options online, but unless you are looming for apparel, you'd probably be better off with a retailer that caters specifically to skiers.

REI has become a disaster. Enforcing mask wearing or they will deny entry. No exceptions granted. Not respectful at all with people with particular circumstances. I am searching for alternatives. Very disappointed.

Layer. After that, it depends on your budget and personal preference. Things like Gore-tex are very nice and some people will pay extra for them, but they aren't for everyone. I would try things in store to ensure you like them before buying.
