Nice, short hike through the woods. Plenty of parking. Once you get to the parking lot, you can either walk past the gate on the gravel trail and hike the trail until you end up at the historic site. Once there, you can hike the natural trail a few feet away from the wooden shelter. Or you can hike on the natural trail that’s on the right side of the gate. See picture of where to find that trail.

Nice & leisurely trail, good for taking dogs since it’s mostly shaded. However, people more often than not feel as though the leash rule doesn’t apply to them, so be cautious if you do take your pups here.

A great place to go for a walk, especially with s dog, since there's really no other parks in the area. Going to the summit feels disappoint though because there really is no view. Would be amazing if they put some type of lookout tower at the top so you could earn a nice view for all the effort.

Short & easy hike great for beginners. Although there isn’t much of a view at the end of the paths, the experience and activity is what it’s about. The majority of the trail is shaded from the sun, at least at 10 in the morning, so it didn’t get too warm which is always nice when hiking. The only interesting thing about this trail is that there used to be an iron ore mine during the Revolutionary War that was mined to make supplies and other items. Very clean as well - I only saw one piece of trash in the duration of my hike. Another bonus; a previous hiker made a rock tower and it’s always funny to see those things in public areas! Other than that, this hike isn’t worth going out of your way for. There’s much more of a variety of hiking at the McDowell Preserve not far away.

How do you enter the trail and is there free parking nearby?

The trailhead entrance is off W Liberty Rd york SC..about 2 blocks West of Hwy 49. There is signage and a gravel parking area. There are no restroom facilities. Once you walk up the road either take the trail to the right before the top or take a path from the top that will intersect the trail after a couple hundred yards. Parking is free.
