I took my two cats to get spayed at the Shelby County Humane Society through their Spay and Neuter Program, and it was such a wonderful experience! Not only were my kitties well-cared for before, during and after their procedures, but the cost was MUCH more affordable than having it done at our vet (like hundreds of dollars cheaper), and Amy and Billy were both so professional and kind! I cannot recommend this service enough! Thank you for providing this program and loving the fur babies of Shelby County so fiercely.

I called today to find a place for three kittens that I found on my property, and the lady in intake asked me how long did I have them I said four weeks now because I was trying to find a find a place for them. She said they can't take them because they're considered my pets now. I need to contact a rescue, I thought places like this helps you not turn you away. I feel really bad for these kittens I been looking and calling and haven't had any luck I'm trying to save their little lives. Many people recommended this place to me what a waste.

Love everything you all do to help animals! They do an exceptional job at keeping the plan clean and the animals taken care of! Visited this location twice so far. Spoke to a lady about adoption yesterday, I was disappointed that she did not help me or encourage me in any way to proceed with adoption. She is vague and reluctant to answer my questions which I found very odd. I did not end up adopting because of the lack of information. Another lady who thought she was being helpful provided me with misinformation about the intake date on the dog I was interested in adopting and was adamant on having me be a 100% sure about adopting with the lack of information and misinformation. I wish she took the time to speak to me. I was not planning on adopting if I wasn't a 100% sure either but needed someone to answer my questions without getting the feeling that I was wasting their time... I had an appointment which is highly commended. Without an appointment, you will NOT be assisted, as previous reviews posted. On my first visit I was not aware and went without an appointment and no one was available to answer my questions. Lady at the front desk did apologize to me which I was professional and I appreciated that. I know that not all volunteers are the same and realize that my experience with a couple of them there does not define everyone else who dedicates their time to this facility and the animals there.
I Only Speak The Truth
These dogs need homes! There were so many there with the saddest faces you've ever seen. We were able to take this sweet one out for a bit to see how he would fit with the fam. But they all had that "take me with you" look. If only I could.

No. But they only do it if the animals are suffering or have any other type of bad medical condition. They always try to help the animals or get them help before they euth. Their euth. Rate is actualy pretty low. I believe last year they were at a 97% live release rate. -if i am saying that right-
Yes , they alloe you to pet the animals and play with them if you want especially if they are gonna be around childrrn , in order to see if you and that particular animal are going to be a good match for each other
The adoption fee (according to the website) is $75 or $90, depending on age. Prior answers prove that it it subject to change, and it is best to call and ask for certain dogs.
Yes you can. Some of the newcomers who haven't been registered no. As well with the sick dogs and dogs under the age of 6 months I believe.
Any age can adopt. Minors must have a parent or guardian with them.
I'd start with a program from your vet
I beleive so. If they dont im sure they can tell you of some places to go to.
You can call and they do provide medical treatment to animals in need. Euthanasia is a last resort here, only if the animal is suffering or so aggressive it is irresponsible to adopt out. No animal there is on a time limit. My dog was in shelter care for 5 months when I adopted her. They have had dogs there over a year. They're a fantastic group of dedicated people.
The one we had help is was tall with dark hair and she (Sammie) was really nice. So not sure who you are talking about.
Are you unable to care for them? Or are you looking to have them spayed/neutered? I'd definitely call them first because different departments require an appointment
They have an animal drop off
Tammy, yes I have black cats, tuxedo cats, black kitten, etc... but must be a good home. If u have trouble reaching me call the Humane society off Airport drive, ask for Olivia and have her call me.
Are paying
No
dog's skin is a sebaceous cyst, which is a plugged oil gland in the skin. Basically, a sebaceous cyst is a very large pimple that is harmless to your pet and may feel like a raised bump. If left alone, it might go away without treatment, but may recur. IDK?
I think they take all items that are in good condition
I'm sure they are doing everything the can so your new family member can come home to you. Give them a call in the morning, I'm sure their wonderful staff will be more than willing to answer any and all questions you have.
Don't believe so but go to our website and you can check it out
Check out the website
Theres no fee for surrender but they do need all the donations they can get because of the medical costs and operating costs
They should
They have lots of good dogs that need homes. Its worth the trip to see for yourself.
If he's on the webpage, he's available. If he's not there anymore, he's gone.
All the animals that are up for adoption are featured on the website. The page is updated - as soon as one has been adopted they will say so, or their entry will be removed. The dog you asked about was adopted well before your inquiry, but they have tons of cuties so keep checking back!
I would try to find a way to get the animal a home with some one first, or if you have just try in the morning during normal hours of operation.
They already do that it's included in the adoption
I would call but if the animal is still on the website he/she should still be available. Good luck 🙂
We do owner request euthanasia and also private cremation. I'm not sure of EOL fee, but I think it is 35.
Yes all you have to do is show proof of residency in Shelby County to surrender
Call 6693916 and ask.
Best to call them and ask. I use to volunteer a long time ago all day and on and off during the summer, but that was 25 years ago.
Not that I know of. You should always drop during business hours so they are familiar with anything you know about the animal.
Only when they're sick and can't be treated without suffering
Ok, thank you. Do I need to call for any more information?
Thank you so much for your answers
Cats and dogs are all we are set up to take care of you would have to contact the individual vet to see what other animals they care for Calera Animal Hospital would be a good vet to contact
Go to shelbyhumane.org
I had a chow mix who came to me as a rescue at a couple months old. Best dog I ever had. A little stubborn but was very well-behaved with a lot of love and some training. He died in his sleep at age 14. I have 3 currently and I still miss my chow.
Isolation- it's for contagious illnesses
You can volunteer, but if your under 16 years old you have to have parental supervision
Yes, they would take good care of them. They often have a lot of kittens so it might take them a while to get adopted. But yes, they'd be taken care of and eventually adopted out.
Yes there are smaller cages in the shed by the intake door for cats that will keep them dry and safe until someone arrives in the morning. There should also be paperwork available for the person dropping them off.
I just took in a litter of puppies and the mom is getting fixed for free but my other dog has a litter I can't catch so Amy ask me if I had any kind of gov assistance and I said medicade andsince I had that card on me it's only going to be 35 to get her fixed it's full price she said was 75
I believe 18.
I went Thursday they had a selection of cats and larger dogs a few puppies larger breed and 3 small breed dogs
Yes
They have a news paper donation box on the right side of the building bck by the dumpster I drop off news papers there all the time for them. It used to be by the door but they moved it to the right side of the building yu can't miss it. Is a big white container and you put the papers thru the flap on the front of the big container hope this helps
I Believe you can call them and ask! but I'm getting my 2 girls fixed and in the email it said I cud call and pay with credit or debit card or come in and pay bc it has to be paid 5 days before surgery day
There is a very young cat. that was abandoned and my neighbor seem a van toss the cat out a month ago.The past week and half the cat will not stop hanging out at my house sleeps on front porch stays under carport etc. The cat is the most sweet cat I've ever seen just wants attention and rubbed.I would keep her BUT I HAVE A 6 YR OLD PIT BULL AND HES NEVER BEEN AROUND A CAT SO WHEN HE SEES IT HE GOESCRAZY PAWING AT DOOR & WINDOW . HE HAS EVEN SNAPPED HIS CABLE IN HALF and goes after it . I don't want the cat to vet hurt or someone abuse it ANYONE WANT A CAT
You'd call the law enforcement for that and they would send over specialized people in that job for that. You can just call your local police station and they'd direct your call.
Are they microchiped? You should call Animal Control first to see if they had been picked up? You can also look at both places online. I hope you find them. Good luck!!.
Prices change occasionally, dependent on how many animals are available, it's best to call and ask
Doubtful, but you should check. It's rare when they have purebreds but it does happen. I.e. sheepdogs, shelties, daschund, and chihuahua have all been seen at this shelter. And you never know, you may find a mutt that steals your heart just as much as a purebred does!
Yes 24 hr
