I lost my passport and didn't discover it missing until 2 weeks before my vacation! I was so upset, but the people here were so great! I've never described an experience at a government agency as positive before. But they were so kind, reassuring, and funny. From the security to the ladies taking our papers, it was so pleasant. You do need an appointment, no walk ins! Also, the parking situation is terrible. I recommend having someone go with you, drop you at the door, and pick you up when you're done. Also, do expect to wait. My appointment was at 8:30am. I was done with paperwork super quickly, but I had to come back at 1pm for pickup. Plan to get lunch and walk around town. There a nice harbor near by!

The staff is terrific. BUT, as others have noted, they do not take walk-ins. You must make an appointment by calling the phone number listed on the site. When I called, the earliest appointments were two weeks out. Although they said earlier appointments might free up due to cancelations, I called many times and no one canceled. So if you don't have time to do the mail-in method, I would call the appointment line as soon as possible. They are very nice, but can only do so much.

Yes, you can go early like around 7:30 -8am. They have two lines. One for people that have an appointment and the other line is for walk in service. It's just like being on the VIP line. No biggie, you will be attended to promptly. Just make sure you have a travel itinerary (paper copy) and all other pertinent forms of identification. The personnel @ the passport agency are very efficient and professional. I forgot to mention that expedited service is $17o.

You can basically forget about making an appointment. You just need to show up, very early, and make sure you have all of your paperwork/photos ready to go. They will only see you if you are traveling within a few days (you'll need to bring proof).
If your trip is considered a "life and death" emergency, AND you can provide adequate documentation, you can call and schedule an emergency passport appointment with a US Passport Agency (NYC or Stamford, CT are the closest to NJ). They can print your passport within 3 hours!
Yes, get all pertinent information and paper itinerary of your children and yours to the office. Try making an appointment before 8th. Yes you will need to appear in person and it wouldn't be considered a renewal it'll be looked at as a new process since the book expired over 5 years ago. You have 5 years from the expiration date listed on the passport to renewal otherwise you'll need to start from the beginning.

Yes. It just adds a whole lot of pressure for you to make sure you have everything in order so they don't turn you away. If I were you I would continue calling to see if there were earlier dates you can switch to because although everyone I knew needed same day service, including myself, there is the chance that they make a mistake on your passport or are not able to get everyone's in on time. Personally, I did notice that they prioritize families who are traveling sooner versus others traveling further out.
When I went a few weeks back they would tell people who had flights passed two weeks, "You have plenty of time." Keep calling nonstop!!! Keep in mind you can't choose what office you want. Rather, they tell you what they have available and you may or may not have to commute to another site. Best of luck!

No. The guard by the door and on-site security will explain to you that your best shot is to call the number at 8am on the dot. Trust me, I thought I had a shot at doing the standby walk-in and made the trip for no reason 🤣. It's a wild experience but my wife and I stayed persistent with spam calling the number and we got a reservation two days after our attempt to standby walk-in. Crazy thing is we commuted from NY and while on the phone in Connecticut a slot opened up back home LOL. Most appointments being offered were far though. I got Atlanta Georgia offered the first time then Buffalo, Honolulu, New York, Puerto Rico...and my wife got other options but they were too far. We kept calling and locked in Connecticut for two days later. Currently on vacay! Woohoo 🙌

Hello, Leena. They say online that you need to make an appointment, but it's actually impossible to do so. When I was there, they were allowing walk-ins, but you need to have proof that you are traveling within a few days (you need to bring your itinerary). I'm not sure what they will say if you've already submitted an application, but the only way you can guarantee a fast turnaround is to show up in person (and you should get there early, before they open). If you're not traveling the very next day, they may make you come back in a day or two to pick it up. You'll want to make sure that you have all of the paperwork, photos, etc. before you walk in the door.

Hello, I applied for renewal passport at the post office and I handed them my old passport to do so, they told me it would take 2-3 weeks and now theyre saying 3 months, I have an emergency to travel and I was wondering if I could get a new passport at another location even though I gave the post office my old passport.

Mailing it in can take 12-14 weeks. If you need it sooner, you have to go online to make an appt. Appts can only be made two weeks prior to departure. If you get an appt (they only process a limited number per day), it will only be within 72 hours of departure. They will issue the passport the same day. YOU MUST HAVE CONFIRMED INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL PLANS (PAID FLIGHT). I went on the website at midnight two weeks before departure and I got the last appointment available in the tri-state. Appointments were gone in a matter of a minute.

The chances of you getting an appointment for same day service are very slim, unless you are lucky. You can get the passport for your child the same day. You need to take your spouse and child to to agency and all relevant info of the child and TRAVEL ITINERARY. Just go early, walk in and it will only take 30 minutes to give the information to the agency. And then you'll return to the agency in the afternoon to pick up your child's passport. If you can't take the other parent to go that day you need to get the proper application filled and NOTERIZED. I forgot the item number of that application. Good luck. And by early, I mean be @ the agency by 6:3o - 7:oo am.

If your going to renew the passports they won't give you a problem. They do have chips in them buti guess the government made sir they are CHILDPROOF. Any who, just to be on the safe side renew ALL passports. Outs cheaper to replace a damaged passport than to renew.
