The Ansonia Police department truly look out for the people in the community. Officers are more focused on diffusing a situation rather than to arrest. They are well trained in dealing with those with mental illness and are highly empathetic. Other police forces could take lessons.

On jan.11 I was experiencing a type 1 diabetic low blood sugar crisis. My husband called 911 for assistance. Along with EMS responders 2 police officers arrived. Upon arrival the police officers were suspicious of alcohol consumption. We were accused of being intoxicated. .neither of us were. Neither officer was aware of the symptoms of a diabetic low blood sugar behavior. It is emparative that all first responders be re-educated in this matter. It was very offensive and insulting.
