Federal courts have deemed public libraries to be a "limited public forum," which means public libraries have some discretion to reasonably restrict the exercise of free speech rights in their buildings - especially to the extent that the conduct in question would be disruptive to the other patrons or inconsistent with the library's fundamental mission. In most cases, taking photographs and/or recording videos of library staff or patrons without their permission can be prohibited as a matter of library policy

That would be a resounding no. All civil rights are null and void at the door. You are subject to search and seizure and arrest when entering here
No. It is a public building and discriminating against people for what they wear would open them to a civil rights violation lawsuit
Yes. We have them. We lend the new books for two weeks and the others for three weeks. More information here: https://danburylibrary.org/loans-fees/
Yes you can! We'll send them back for you. Just be advised that it takes a little while for your books to get back where they came from.
I guess. The Danbury News times archives would be best for birth or obits and the Danbury Historical society at 51 or 53 Main Street could be of service for older records. You could also go to the City of Danbury land records under erected online to search any real estate transactions. Same with tax records.
No. Iβm sorry. Neither the library nor the Friends accept old encyclopedias as donations.
The Library Staff can also be reached by phone and they are so helpful.
The Library wifi is accessible from the parking lot during business hours.
No
We do. Faxing is $1 per page for in-state numbers and $1.50 per page for out-of-state numbers. We can only send faxes, we cannot receive them.
I would encourage you to reach out to Literacy Volunteers of Danbury. They may have the resources youβre looking for: http://lvaschool.org/
Unfortunately, the library is only open until 7pm Monday-Thursday and until 5pm on Friday-Sunday, so that doesn't leave you a lot of time after work to come into the library. But if you get your library card, you can use the language learning app, Pronunciator, in order to learn English at home. http://learning.pronunciator.com/getstarted.php?library_id=18978519
When you look up a book in the catalog, if it has a due date listed next to it, then it is checked out. If it says "Checked In" then the book should be on the shelf and available for you to place a hold on it and/or check it out. If you look up a book and aren't sure about its status, please feel free to give us a call to ask! 203-797-4505
Hi there! You can see all loan periods and late fees here: http://danburylibrary.org/loans-fees/
Books placed in the bin are emptied on a daily basis and are checked into the library's system as returned.
We recommend that you bring all donations to the Friends of the Danbury Library located at 15 Main Street. You can drop them off there any day. If you have too many books to unload yourself, their next collection event is this Saturday, May 12, 2018. They'll have volunteers on hand to help you unload your books.
Yes they have 2 computer labs. One on their main floor and another in their 2nd floor technology center. Both labs have printers and all the computers work and up to date. My guess is they're about 60 between the 2 labs.
Not at this time, no. In order to renew your card you must bring your photo ID and your library card into the library. We have had many requests to implement the ability to renew online, so we're keeping it in mind for the future.
