First, know you'll be using two systems to get to NC from Edgewood. First, the Marc Train. Maryland's commuter train system. Catch any of the half dozen Marc trains that leaves before 9am to Baltimore Penn Station. Transfer there to Amtrak. There, you can catch any schedules Amtrak train to get you to Greensboro, NC ( the first Amtrak stop inside North Carolina). You can find schedules for each on their individual websites. Good Luck!

There's going to be new machines installed soon which should accept cash. As Nicole and Jeff have said though you can currently use a credit card at the station to buy a ticket or use cash only on the train to get a ticket. The extra fee is $5 on top of the price of the ticket
