Horrible. Two Fridays in a row it has taken the bus 2 hours to transport my child 2 miles. One hour waiting for the bus in the school and then when the bus shows up they go to another school, take those kids first to their stop and my son last. It takes a while to have someone answer the phone in this terminal and they tell you to go tell your transportation liason who couldn't care less. Unbelievable. Scared of this horror.

It’s unfortunate how those who have power to help go out of their way to choose not. After speaking with Maria Fuentas over the phone regarding my situation, she advised me to attend the Open House so they can better assist me. I left work early and picked up my family to make it on time to their Open House which supposedly finishes at 2pm. When we arrived at the gate by 1:45pm, we were informed they have “closed” for the day. Mind you, it’s pouring down rain and we just drove a far distance to make it. After dismissing the first person to send us away, we approach the so called “Supervisor” who was already set on not being helpful. We stood outside in the rain going back and forward over the fact my child is only 1.8 miles away from the school which means she isn’t eligible for a bus. Not only does our whole family work inflexible schedules and unable to provide her public bus transportation fare, however last year we were able to attend Open House and receive an exception to allow her onto the bus. Every single person we spoke to this time around was completely unwilling to assist and continue to stand by their “shortage of drivers” when the reality is that is not our problem and them trying to impose the issue onto us like this is somehow our issue to solve is beyond shameful. We did our responsibility to show up and attempt to resolve our circumstances to which they were extremely against. To say they were distasteful and very unprofessional is an understatement. Broward County Schools would be wise to reconsider their staff at this location as they do not have the best interest of the child at heart and clearly could not be bothered by any questions or requests. I will further escalate this to the Board so no other family has to endear the embarrassment and disrespectful of the entire South Area Transportation. My hope is one of the many workers who was there to witness the encounter reads this and is disgusted with their actions to go out of their way of making sure a young lady does not have a seat on the bus due to their negligence. I’ll end this by saying, it was by far the most degrading experiences I’ve had to experience based on the fact after all the different people we spoke to each of them were confrontation, rude and spiteful. Imagine your own child having to see this days before their first day of school?

A shortage is no fault of their own but at least inform the parents of what’s going on. I walked my son to school on the first day for the bus to come 20 minutes later. I had no idea of this shortage until I tried to google their phone number and saw they were on the news the day before saying they were still in need of drivers. Why not let parents know beforehand that this was going to be an issue and buses would be running late instead of worrying them?!!

The reason is simple, to ensure that everyone is at the bus stop. Yes sometimes the bus driver is late. There are many factors, the bus couldn't start, the bus breaks down on the road, traffic that we have no contrl of, or the regular bus driver calls out sick at the last minute. Then a sub has to take over. Next time time you ride one of the buses, please take time to thank the driver for taking to school or home safely. We as drivers feel appreciated when you guys do so. Thanks for the question.
