Depending on where you are camping. If you have a spot closest to the beach front, you should be fine by parking closest to the water. If you have a spot beyond the beach front, 2wd is not recommended.

Yes you can, we arrived in a car which we were told might sink in the sand but a good truck with clearance would be fine. Not sure what they are OK with you doing, aside from not sinking and having to be towed out!
