One of the best riverside spots. The part near the stairs is the best for both sitting by the River the closest the most comfortably and getting ready for a gradual dip into the water. The area overall is very clean and safe. A great place to relax and rewind in the middle of Mother Nature.

Really peaceful place to experience the river! Lots of folks walking around enjoying themselves. The sounds of the river and views are wonderful. Unfortunately, the trails and paths are not wheelchair accessible at all though.

First time I’ve been here. I was scouting for a place to fly fish and found this park on Google Maps. Nice park with a lot of trails and bench seating on the James River. The parking lot is gravel and dirt and there are public restrooms. River was a little high and muddy due to recent rain and snow. No fly fishing but I was able to catch a Channel Cat on the spinning rod.

It was a beautiful place, I brought my drone and got a bunch of cool pictures, where I was on the rocks it was very open and is a nice spot to go and is pretty quiet aswell, there wasnt many other people there and I had a fun time.

Maybe too rocky here? Kayak fishing to get out into some of the pools. Seen some small gar in the shallows. I think a little further down Small mouth might be an option. Never seen anyone kanoodle there but who knows?
Great place to walk trails with kids and or dogs
Small mouth bass and catfish are ok, not great, if you have a kayak or a small boat then you will have better luck
No but you can grill park closes at dusk
If as a responsible adult caring and watching the 4 year old then i would answer in the affirmative. If on the other hand the 4 year old were to be left to their own devices then drowning or venomous snake bites or maybe blunt force trauma could easily ensue. That and whoever left their 4 year old child here alone might then be arrested for neglect and spend some time away. So yes it could be safe but it could just as easily be not.
Yes it's a great spot for you or your dog. Go down the path to the right when facing the river from the parking lot. The current is slower and there are better spots for dogs to swim in that area.
Definitely muddy.plus the river may be flooding the area right now.
Copied and pasted. Prior to the City’s 1970 annexation, Pony Pasture was part of Chesterfield County, and it was also a pony pasture. According to Michele Garrigan, who had her ponies there in the mid 1960s, the pasture was home to a number of horses and ponies owned by families living in the houses nearby. She remembers growing up near Pony Pasture “as a huge playground and fun place to grow up near, and hang out with the ponies.” There was a barn where the kiosk now stands and the parking lot was a meadow. People driving by would stop to pet the ponies through the fence. During floods, and there were a few, she would bring her ponies home to a pen in her yard.
