Duke University Hospital: Emergency Room

I get the staff is used to be up all night, but the patients are not! While waiting on a room, to have to listen to all the staff gossip, problems and giggling all night is ridiculous!!! They should be more aware of the loudness if their voices!!! It’s actually shocking that they are so clueless!!!

This was such a horrible experience. I broke my right arm during an accident and had to drive myself with my non dominant hand to the er. I checked in around 7:30 and literally waited 5 hours the whole time with my broken swollen arm just dangling. They couldn’t even give me a blanket to wrap my arm in let alone a sling or arm cast while I waited. The whole time I was in serious pain but I just calmly sat there and waited.I witnessed all sorts of chaos in those 5 hours I waited. Including flat out neglect and incompetence from duke employees. I watched a nurse literally bully and yell at a very sick elderly man for nothing. I was appalled at what I Whitnessed there. Just horrible all around. After 5 hours my name still was not called so I had no choice but to drive myself back home with a broken arm. Just a complete waste of 5 hours that accumulated to a pricey parking fee. The er is an embarrassment. Don’t waste your time and money there

Waited 10hours for no reason

I had to wait 9 hours with pneumonia after a thirodectomy. There was no place to seat for the first 2 hours. My husband and I were there between 7 PM and 5 AM. At 3 AM they called me in for blood tests and when I got up I collapsed. After they took me in for blood tests they returned me to the waiting room. After two hours more my husband went to the counter and explained I was very ill and had been waiting for 9 hours. Their response was you are lucky others have been here for 13 hours. We decided to leave and the next day I was hospitalized at Wake Med Cary with a serious pneumonia.
