The average kickplate is 6 -8 inches. And step a little larger. It would take about 16 inches to cover a step alone. It would take a few of those rugsto cover from top to bottom depending on how many stairs to cover
If you wanna take the task on...try Woolite. Mix in some vinegar to prevent mold while they dry. I dry my rugs outside. Good luck.
