The gentleman that runs this business is very patient and kind, but most importantly he is honest about the actual value of any items he appraises. He won’t hesitate to tell you that he isn’t interested in your items rather than offering to buy them at an outrageously low price to make a quick buck at the sellers expense like many bookstores do. That being said, one thing I wish I had known prior to scheduling an appointment was the minimum value a book needs to be worth selling to this store (~$100 and up per book it seems). If you are able to find books identical to yours online for $70 or less, you would do best to save both your time and sell them through an online marketplace.

I talked to a man here the other day said he could meet today after 1 and fo curbside. I drove 40 min to get here and he kept forwarding my called. Waited 30 min with no response. He finally returned my calls after another 30 min but I had already left. Really inconsiderate of him. He could of at least answered and let me know he was busy or anything. Waste of time.

Nice gentleman I met with. Looked at the books and gave me the value of my books quickly. Does purchase books that have a decent value. More like geography, maps and books on the area. Thanks, Phoebe! A pleasure to evaluate your books!

Although I've never been to their actual location. The online service I received was awesome. Very friendly when I spoke with him. He even agreed to hold a book for me. Awesome person! Excellent service! Will definitely buy from you again and again. Thank you!

Thanks for your inquiry. Unfortunately I don't handle very many children's books. I will have to pass on the Hansel and Gretel book. Best wishes, Michael Johmann for A Book By Its Cover.
Thanks for your question! Unfortunately I would not be able to make an offer on those titles. Our focus tends to be on non-fiction, though we do buy signed, limited edition and/or rare fiction. Please keep us in mind in the future.
Thanks for your inquiry. I would be happy to take a look at the books. Please call me at 502-459-2449 and we can set up an appointment. Best wishes, Michael Johmann, A Book By Its Cover.
Yes, quite a bit! What kinds of British history are you looking for?
Thanks for your question. Shakespeare is, along with the Bible, Dickens and Lord Byron, the most frequently reprinted author of the 19th century, so in general many copies of Shakespeare from the 1800s are available even today. As an odd volume from a larger set, the volume probably would not have a great deal of value. However, if you, want you can send me some pictures of the book and I can determine what you have. Send the pics as text messages to 502-459-2449. Best wishes, Michael Johmann.
Thanks for your question. Unfortunately, no one in Louisville is a rebinder these days. You might be able to find one in Cincinnati.
Thanks for your question. Yes, many classic books were later rewritten for younger readers around the end of the 19th century. In terms of retail value, however, there really aren't many collectors looking for such books, since they are not first editions and the rewrite isn't even by the original author. I would put the value at $10 or less. It's odd to think that a book over 100 years old isn't worth more than $10 but you need to remember that millions and millions of books from the late 1800s are still sitting on shelves around the world. Only a few have any significant collector value. Best wishes, Michael Johmann for A Book By Its Cover.
Thanks for your questions. I would need to see some photos of the books. Please send to 502-459-2449.
