Supremely happy! I've raised chickens since the 1970s, and have never found a better brown egg-layer than the Jenks novogens I bought last fall. Early maturing (started laying at 18 weeks); mine are producing extra large eggs, heck, they even lay earlier in the day than my other breeds. Just received another order of novogen whites and novogen browns, so I can cull the poorer layers out of the flock in a few months. These are truly superior birds; Jenks offers healthy chicks and responsive customer service. Best hatchery in the USA.

What a wonderful business!! So so helpful and nice!! I’m new at chickens and they were so sweet and kind with all my questions. Very professional and educational. I will be continuing with broilers every year and will definitely be continuing purchasing from this hatchery! I’m undoubtedly impressed and definitely felt like I was sitting at a dinner table discussing chickens with family. Thank you very much!!!

Great experience! First time buying raising chickens, Jenks answered our many questions before and after we placed our order. We did a Frypan special and 10 hens. We loved being able to pick them up on their hatch day and every single chick is still alive an healthy, event one we thought was a runt. We will absolutely purchase again!

OUTSTANDING QUALITY BIRDS! I ordered 60 chicks that arrived happy and healthy with no problems. Jenks even included an extra 2 chickens as insurance during the shipping process. My order was received on time and 8 weeks later all 62 birds …Thank you for the excellent review, Sarah! We are thrilled to hear that your first time raising broilers was a successful one! We look forward to working with you again soon!

Questions & Answers

When do isa browns start laying eggs

William Albury | Dec 3, 2021
Jenks Hatchery (Owner) | Dec 4, 2021

Hi William, ISA Browns typically begin laying around 16-18 weeks of age. This is largely dependent upon the season, whether or not the birds have lighting in the coop or not, and additionally, what they are being fed. It is important to use a properly formulated egg layer starter feed to ensure that the birds have adequate Calcium reserves available. Without enough Calcium in their diet, hens will not lay consistently, and may reach the point of lay later than normal.

Do you also have turkey chicks?

Phyllis Cartwright | Feb 2, 2019
Aaron Jenks | Feb 3, 2019

Hi Phyllis, yes, we do offer turkey poults. We have them available from February until July each year.

Our meat birds look like they are going to go overweight prior to fair weigh in. They were the May 1st hatch and will be 63 days at weigh in on July 3. Our max weight is 7lbs. How do we slow their gain down.

Judith Kavanaugh | Feb 2, 2019
Aaron Jenks | Feb 3, 2019

Hi Judith, you can slow your birds down by restricting the amount of time that feed is in front of them. Try keeping feed out for 12 hours and then pulling the feed for 12 hours. You can further slow the birds down by adjusting the amount of time each day that birds have access to feed. Hope this helps!
