The Senior Dog Sanctuary in Severn, MD is an amazing place. My husband, Allen, and I recently toured the facility with Ritchie Brooks and found beautiful, clean, comfortable spaces inside and out. There is a large nature trail where dogs are walked every day, as well as individual dog runs, an agility course, and many benches set up around the property so the volunteers can sit and soak up the sunshine with the senior dogs who are looking for their forever homes. The staff members are committed to doing their best for each of the dogs, and their passion is evident in all that they do. Ritchie shared many heart-warming stories and introduced us to Diamond, Buddy Love, and many other adorable senior pups. The Senior Dog Sanctuary truly is a safe haven for older dogs looking for a second chance for a forever home.

My daughter and I adopted our dog from the sanctuary. The staff was extraordinarily kind and supportive. We visited twice to meet pups and they made the adoption process direct and simple. The facility is beautiful and loving!

The sanctuary in my opinion is not run as well as when Val Lynch the founder ran it. Dear Val has passed away. It's not the same. The dogs are well taken care of, but the administrative staff are indifferent, and rude.,and it's just not the same. I was going to donate a significant amount of change to them in my will, but not now. I wish the best for them in memory of Val. This is my opinion only, I have volunteered at the SDS when Val started it. It is definitely not the same. I wish them only the best in Val's name.

The love and care they give the animals in their care is amazing. Their mission to love and care for Senior dogs is near and dear to my heart and they do a fantastic job at it.

We share the mutual joy and love of Senior pups and the deep sadness when they pass. But it helps to know they never leave us in spirit and will be forever in our minds and hearts.

In reference to volunteering to foster, are households with younger children able to foster?

Nina Nine | Apr 25, 2022
Senior Dog Sanctuary | May 25, 2022

Hello, Yes, households with younger children can foster. Decisions are based on the dog's specific needs.

I am in need of placing a dog that I've been caring for since January. I took her in to help an elderly family member and now she cannot take her back. I do not have the means to care for this dog. I have my own pets and I'm moving. Can you help?
