You will see dolphin from the shore. Once, I even got to see a hermit crab, on dry sand, as it was about to wander back into the water.
No swimming and it is an intercoastal waterway that runs through to the inlet so it is salt water. With that said yes there are sharks. Bull sharks like to breed and the pups stay in the "river/nursery area" until big enough to head out to the ocean through the inlet. There are also pods of dolphins that are visibly swimming up and down the river and manatees. There used to be swimming until the city made it into a park, they still had swimming but the liability insurance was too much for the city so suddenly the water was deemed "unfit" to swim in due to bacteria. Hmmmm....yet people boat up and down the river, swim in the river, jet ski and water ski! Hope this helps

I have never spotted any manatees, though I have seen them at Kennedy Memorial Park (Park Avenue).
