When The intake woman or who ever she was walked towards me, I thought she was homeless. Based on her appearance and the way she spoke to me, I really thought she was mentally ill. But then she brought a pen and paper to do the intake. I told her I wasn’t there for food. When I tried to to tell her why I was there and who told me to come this morning she got upset on a level where her face started changing as well as her voice. She disrespected me in front of the people that were standing next to us. I stayed calm, again I tried to tell her that I was invited over. For some reason she made me feel that she didn’t like me. She interrupted me with: the only thing we do here is giving food when you are hungry and she went back inside, shut the door. One of the guys outside tried to answer my question as he heard the part that I spoke as he had a similar issue in the last. She opened the door and asked him if there was anything else that he needed. In other words she was telling him to leave. It seemed to me that there must have been a conflict of interest that made her be that aggressive towards someone that came to ask for assistance. The other reason that makes me believe that she has a problem with it is, she refused to give me the name of the person that invited me over. First she said she doesn’t know him and when I told her that her colleagues gave it to me I just forgot, she said he is.just a volunteer and has nothing to say! She. said this is just a food supply for homeless people! Going to their website I know that she lied. I feel humiliated and disrespected to the highest degree and still ask myself if it was just discrimination (which it clearly was) or has she mistaken me with someone else. It might also been the fact that I was dressed extremely clean and neat (which I have to be for my job), and she was looking as she sleeps outside. That, I thought might also had an impact. Either way; there is a basic principal we all have to follow, whether as adults or children: that is “respect”. What does it cost to just be kind? Specially doing what she is doing requires that! I don’t think the higher management is aware that she treats people the way she did today. Otherwise, I am sure, she would have been fired immediately! Children are doing an excellent job in that regard. A world where you see children that are sophisticated and on the other side adults like her that promote nasty behaviors. She could learn a lot from them!
