There are parts that have decent patches of poison oak...but don't let that take away from the beautiful scenery. Between the waterfalls, the wildflowers, and the gorgeous colors of the American River this is a fun hike. Maybe bring a headlamp or flashlight to check out the cave.

Lovely diverse trail with breathtaking views! Many wildflowers around April and May! Trail starts very smooth but becomes a bit more challenging as you get farther out so be prepared if doing the full hike. Bring plenty of water and watch for local reptiles!

Some of the views are spectacular during specific seasons. It is not a kid friendly trail, definitely not with a stroller. It’s steep at times, phone reception is sporadic, after snow/rainfall it is extremely muddy especially at the trail head. So watch out. Parking is limited too.

Very good hike. Only downside is open trail paths which tend to get real hot! Carry a lot of water and be prepared for steep hike on the way back.

I have to disagree with above. This is about 9 miles full round trip down to the river and back. I've done it 3 times now. I recommend downloading the All Trails app.
