Ed Smith was a local man who was credited with bringing the Chicago White Sox to Sarasota, and for getting the stadium built in 1989. He passed in 2006. The Orioles had the opportunity to change the stadium name but wisely kept the name for the man who brought baseball to Sarasota!!!
