In August of 2020 I barely survived escaping the CZU FIRE & my farm in the remote mountains between Empire grade and Last Chance. Comfort was in knowing Fema and Red Cross would offer a buffer for us survivors. Fema was/is a joke and did nothing for my family. Now the Red Cross is even worse. Because not only did they deny my documents but the send me applications every time new benefits post to be applied for and again the wild goose chase starts all over again. Just to deny my paperwork. I've done my part. But no one to talk to. There phone system makes a 3 ring circus seem like child's play. It's always fun to call back in the same number that everyone gets to get the kindest volunteer ever who has zero power, authority, or answers. There's no one to request a review from. If you're lucky enough to get a call back, don't hold your breath because they aim to keep the donations, not disperse it to you, the victim. If you contact your local chapter, you'll get a lot of smoke and mirrors, coined terms, and referred back to the same nationwide number I'm sure many get some sort of help, but I'm not sure about us rural folks or those they just don't like. So, here I am over a year later still camping. Still homeless and still never helped. It's almost worse to get an email to reapply for help fully knowing they will likely not approve it for a whole host of reasons. . None of which pertain to you or your situation but clearly represented a favoring of others. I am sick, cold, hungry, and poor. I guess that means I'm on my own. There's no advocate, case worker, application appeal or help. They are the donation God's and do their due diligence to hoard the monies. As much as they can. Cause I sure haven't gotten any. Nor has my daughter. Nor had my friends. Don't bother protesting via calling in. The person who answers has no idea what to do or how to fix your problems.

I would like to personally thank the American Red Cross for all of their help throughout this hard and difficult year of 2020. They have not only been on the front lines helping fight against the Covid-19 pandemic but also have been beyond generous and giving after the CZU Complex Lightning Fires destroyed the homes of countless residents as well as friends in Santa Cruz County. God Bless the Red Cross for all that you do!!!

Great place to get trained on preparedness.

No one knew what to do at the time during our mandatory evacuation during the CZU FIRE so no one was able to answer this question. Now months later there is no record of me or my American Red Cross account and someone has been leaving messages for me to call 1-800 Red Cross who has told me they will never call and leave that National American Red Cross number. Be careful folks, and register as safe and well with American Red Cross so your family can find you.
What size is this bed and is it still available? I am interested but I have no car or truck.
Please call 911 and get help
Please call 800 REDCROSS to get information
Mari, Welcome to Santa Cruz. I want to let you know that the Red Cross only assists individuals who have been affected by disasters or house fires. You could reach out to Community Bridges as they have resource centers that might have resources to help you. Good luck.
