This is a great place to take family and friends on a relaxing and educational walk. The Rainbow Trail starts from the visitor center and loops back around. The trail is flat, well-shaded, and has a number of educational plaques and signs. The visitor center also has activities for kids. My daughter completed a workbook and received wilderness explorer patch. She has a blast and was excited to walk around the trail while filling out the workbook.

We were disappointed that the underground view was close for renovation. However, the nice walkways and little bridges and beautiful scenery made up for it. We will definitely visit again next spring when things open again.

We were at Lake Tahoe Monday and Tuesday only to find The Pope Estate, the Taylor Creek Visitor Center and the Lake Tahoe Historical Society Museum all closed in the middle of summer. What a bummer! Why don’t they alternate closing days? Sure won’t recommend this place to anyone.

Starting 6/18/21, they only open Fri-Sun 10-4pm. Plenty of parking, portable potty for now. You can walk from Visitor Center to Rainbow Trail or Taylor Creek (nice beach). It's a short walk.

Yes. July 1st thru October 1st. There are special regulations in the basin. Check those. I catch and release with an artificial fly so I don't know the regs since I'm always in compliance.

Trout and blue gill. The rainbow trout usually go for green power bait. The blue gill go after lures.
