True story: My Grandma was admitted as a patient in 1930. She was 30 years old. She suffered from pollegra (insanity from malnutrition). This was during the dust bowl. Back then they would forcibly sterilize crazy women. They pulled up her gown and saw she had a scar and thought it had already been done so they left her alone. In truth she had had an appendix out. One day, she simply went outside and walked away. She went on to migrate West to pick fruit in California and Washington, and went on to have a troubled life and 5 kids. My mom was the youngest. Thanks to the ineptitude of this place, I was born!

In 1956 My mother was an involuntary patient at the Osawatomie State Hospital. She received shock treatment and was never the same afterwards. She died at age 50. The stress of this barbaric place contributed to her short lifespan. I have no problem believing it is haunted.

They treat human beings like cattle. They care more about doping people up on medications then therapy or treating people like human beings. The workers create toxic atmospheres for patients and supervising staff cover for them. They gaslight patients when workers are being problematic. The doctors are more interested in flaunting their title than actually taking patients serious about how their medications negatively impact a patient's physical being. Doctors here pretend that reading books and passing school is where learning ends and forget that they need to be open to the nuances of patients situations. The doctors need to be open minded to the reality that medications are not a solution for every single patient. Most of the workers do nothing to help when you have a concern or questions. The patient advocate Called "Steven" doesn't even respond to issues or do his job. They pretend that since they changed the rules to prevent workers from being allowed to call security on/sedate patients with syringes for petty/frivolous reasons. That the change automatically makes the environment a safer one. It doesn't when the toxic and petty mentality of the workers hasn't changed. The toxic attitudes of the workers are just as abusive as the physical abuse that used to happen in this facility. Emotional abuse is still abuse and they contribute to the situation with these behaviors. They act as if patients are not allowed to get upset about the emotional abuse, but the workers are allowed to get away with being emotionally abusive. It's in human nature to respond negatively to abuse of any kind. People aren't robots that are designed to shut down just to give poor behavior a pass. Patients have feelings, thoughts, and experiences. This place is still toxic as ever. If I could give zero stars, I would. Shame on people for behaving this way.

This place fried my childhood, I spent some time in rush back in the 70s, lots of time in the quit rooms, and its time for your medication, yeah cus that thorzine you made me take was way better then the pot I liked to smoke. I even learned how to smoke cigs, even had a wall lighter in my room,

Speaking from experience, I called multiple times to US Department of Human Health and Services, who NEVER returned my calls for Vital Statistics. Good luck!
But heres what ya do call your local police and say you are concerned about "person" say they are talking suicide or homicide. .. the local police will take them there.. tell them that you believe "person" should be evaluated
It's complicated the nurse in Adair Acute Care was giving all information and should be documented in correspondence tab of "Patient" chart. It's scary enough being in a mental facility without being able to see a thing but shadows!
Dina Lester the local PD affliates and court system totally disregarded my wishes to get guardianship documents as promised by a social worker in 5-7 business since September 2018...I have no say whatsoever! Even though I am the one who answers all medical questions at KU Medical Center in the Emergency Room before admission to Osawatomie. I do not exist while my family is used as gineau pigs to set policy, procedures as it pertains to healthcare MCO involvement.
Highly recommend it .....for this, in fact, is how I found out that my family member was transferred and at least a vacinity!! ....
You should do it
No you can't
Yes they are mixed but they are kept on a men's hall and a female hall
Unfortunately no there isn't

We drove 3 & a half hours than had to go to a hospital emergency room so they could evaluate my son than while there a cop was supposed to transport him back to this state hospital after 2 hours of waiting we are told they were waiting on my son so back we go to this creepy ads place called a state hospital. His bed was supposed to be ready for him so another hour & here my son comes they can't admit him because he was not brought by an officer. So the long drive back home. The insanity continues finally my son is arrested & now sits in prison for battery. If I had any brains left after all this I should have sued this state hospital for all the hell we were put through.
