Questions & Answers

My guy is looking into lasik surgery. Can it be done here? What steps are needed to have it done? He has BCBS insurance with vision plan.

Thanks for reaching out. The first step would be to have an evaluation for LASIK, which we provide free of charge. This helps us determine if he is a candidate for surgery, and if so, which procedure is right for him. We would also provide pricing information, as well as financing options. We do these evaluations at the North and Legends offices. If he chose one of those locations, his surgeon would be Dr. Randy Jackson. If he had an evaluation done in Independence or Leawood, his surgeon would be Dr. John Doane. Insurance does not cover LASIK but there may be a discount provided with his vision plan (usually around 15%). Let us know if you have any other questions.

What type of brands do they carry for frames?

Availability varies by location, but we carry several name brand frames including RayBan, Coach, Maui Jim, Vera Wang, Ted Baker, Police, Flexon, Michael Kors, etc. If there's something particular you're looking for, let us know.

Does having previous RK surgery necessarily preclude Lasik correction?

Elle Shelquist | Sep 21, 2019
Discover Vision Centers in North Kansas City | Sep 21, 2019

Thanks for your question. Having RK doesn't necessarily preclude you from other vision correction options; however, the best thing to do would be to have an evaluation. This way our team could take all the necessary measurements and perform tests to determine whether or not you are a candidate for additional vision correction. And if so, what those options would be. Hope this helps.

Thanks for your question. Discover Vision offers virtual or in-person consults for LASIK and SMILE, free of charge. If you're interested in vision correction, this is the first step in determining whether or not you are a candidate, and if so, which procedure is right for you. You can visit our website and click on Request An Appointment. Then simply decide whether you want to meet with our team virtually or in the office.

I have Delta Vision Insurance. Would I be covered at your office?

Monica Bond | Sep 21, 2019
Discover Vision Centers in North Kansas City | Sep 21, 2019

Hi, Darryl. We accept many locally-available vision plans, however, we are not providers for Delta Vision at this time. If you have out of network benefits and are willing to pay up front, we are happy to submit a claim on your behalf for any out of network reimbursement that is available. But the best option may be to check with your insurance plan and find out what your in network and out of network benefits are so that there are no surprises.

Is there an email, I could have for Dr. Hornky (sp?). I was told I had a $400 deductible for each eye, and he wanted to do laser surgery on L. and R. eye for glaucoma. I have VSP, and I wanted to see if you had my correct info.

Jill McCumby | Sep 21, 2019
Discover Vision Centers in North Kansas City | Sep 21, 2019

Hi Jill! You can email goto[at]discovervision[dot]com and they can forward to Dr. Horkey’s precert who would verify your insurance for you. Also, VSP is just for routine vision (eye exams, glasses, contact lenses, etc.) and the procedure you mention would most likely fall under your regular medical insurance. Let me know if this answers your question.

If I have my own frames, could you put in the prescription lens?

Vonie Coffey | Sep 21, 2018
Discover Vision Centers in North Kansas City | Sep 21, 2018

Absolutely. However, we would want to look at your specific frames to make sure. If you bring in your frames, our optical team can look at them and give you pricing based on lens only.
