Visited in July and happy to find zero crowds. Maybe being from BOSTON we forget that summer isn’t only 8 weeks long everywhere. Parking was $6. The visitor center was interesting and spacious. Lots of well marked and varied trails. Excellent staffing at the visitor center. Kayak rentals available with easy access in and out. Several covered areas with picnic tables and grills.

I will say that this is one of my favorite parks. There is NO cost to come inside the park but you will have to pay a small fee to do the activities. ie camping, swimming area, etc…. Swimming area cost if 0-3 years Free of charge 4-11 (I think) $4 12-up $6 They take ONLY CASH so you have to have enough or you will be sent to the front gate to go buy the pass to swim. (Bring CASH) It’s a little frustrating but it is their policy The park is absolutely gorgeous. Tons of shade and it’s HUGE!!! Trust me…. Visit this park you will love it!!!

Absolutely beautiful lake, camping sites and grounds. We stayed in one of the glamping cabins. Really nice for a more modern camping experience. All cabins are in walking distance to the bathrooms and showers. Those as were pretty clean and nice for camping. I was actually surprised how nice they were. Camping grounds very quiet and clean. The best was the designated swimming area. Like a piece of beachy heaven. Not too packed and also very clean. We plan on coming back for tent camping and to bring our dog. The cabin itself had a great cold AC and nice relaxing chairs to sit on the porch. Such a wonderful place.

Our first visit to the Lake Norman State park cabin, which seems brand new to the park itself. Unlike another park cabin, they have high ceilings with built-in ceiling fans with extra-wide view windows that is an excellent addition that you …

Not a pier but a deck. There are also spots along the trail for fly fishing.
Yes. They do have trails for hiking, jogging and mountain bike . I like to used all the trails there that are available. They are challenging and fun. You will enjoy it.
They have 5 group camp sites A-E on Group Camp Lane, that appear to be fairly close to the waters edge. They also list 32 tent camping sites on Family Camp Circle. They are Close but none listed right on the water. Short walk... However, with the recent rains, they well could be...
Depends on the time of year. You can during the week most of the time
It's near the fishing area and the concessions. Go down there and you'll see a beach area going down to the lake.
Yes they do under 30 a night! Great place
There is no electric, sewage or water at sites. . . water is available and a dump station. . . .bath house with showers. . . We camped with our RV, nice sites.
Nope, not legal.
No. On the hiking trails there are plenty of beachy areas to take dogs.
All the sites in the Family Campground are paved. Sites 34-44 are new sites that were added. They have power (50 and 30 amp), sewer, and water.
Yes! LOTS! I suggest go near the water run off, always blue gill there!
Most definitely... It's a big beautiful place..

Lake Norman opened 11 full hook-up sites at the end of Feb 2021. They have water, sewer, and electric (30 & 50 amp). All of these sites are back-in, no pull through.
Hello Mr Winslow, I am sorry, but we do not have archery at Lake Norman State Park. Currently we have mountain biking and hiking trails available. Once the covid executive orders are lifted we will resume our non-motorized boat rentals on our park lake and our swim beach area but I don't have a date when that will be. Thank You
Hello, The current park hours are 7am-6pm. The 2 hiking only trails, Alder and Lakeshore, are open for hiking. Our Itusi mountain biking trails open and close according to the weather and how wet they are. Currently they are closed and will be checked again tomorrow 1/5/2021. You can always check our website where we update trail opening and closings. https://www.ncparks.gov/lake-norman-state-park/home Thank You for your inquiry and have a great day. They are building a new shower house
$27.00 per night
I go to the KOA at I 77. Costs 20.00
No cost to get in... there's a small beach that one pays to swim in. It 3 or 4 bucks a person. Other than that it's free.
No playground that I've seen. Nature is the playground.
Yes, I would encourage that as too many places aren't pet friendly, but this place and some of the nearby restaurants are.
You can only park in designated areas. :) But we used to take a blanket and establish our spot on the grass. Take chairs. Get there early to have best selection of area because it can get very crowded. But it is a fun place to cool off!
Yes. Must follow catch and release I would imagine
Yes. There have been some large catfish taken off the end of the pier. I have good luck with cut bait, live small bream, and hot dogs soaked in cherry Kool Aid and garlic.
Should be fine.
No park rangers, nobody to stop you. Not a fan of this fact, but there it is.
Yes, several places.
Yes 30 miles
Its only like $5.00
Yes. They have a boat access with parking. Restrooms on site also.
No. But there are outlets around site at covered reserve areas.
Yes
Yes but when down there do not leave anything unattended it will get stolein they are some theifs down there
Yes in the family camping area. Not in the group area
Plenty of grills, even in open areas next to trails and some off under shaded areas slightly away from the trails for privacy.
I believe there are paddle boats and kayaks for use, but not motorboats
Swimming is free for the rest of the season. The snack bar is closed and there are no life guards.
My fiance and I spent roughly $23 for 3 days. He received a military discount as well.
