This was just amazing! I didn’t want to leave however, this is two hours from where I live. This may be my new place in Kentucky! So peaceful and mesmerizing. -I only visited the beach.

Overall it was a great experience. Customer service was top notch. From the front desk, to the restaurant, to the staff at the lake - genuinely nice people. Cottage was nice, but a little rough around the edges (small holes in walls, missing trim, slow drain in shower). Towels and bed linens were provided and the kitchen was adequately stocked for food preparation. Be sure to check out the restaurant in the lodge. Yummy home cooked food made with local meats and produce! Several hiking trails highlight the natural beauty and history of the area. But the real star of the trip was the beach. Gorgeous! I couldn't believe it was a lake. Fine sand and beautiful shallow water made for a great beach day. Our only hiccup was that the pool was closed for maintenance. But with the beach, boats, fishing, trails, mini golf, restaurant, game room at the lodge and golf course, there's a little bit for everyone. I would definitely go back.

Yes. Not around the beach area though. An owner was asked to remove his dog from the area while we were there.
Check out the ranger station before you go. They can give you a map of where you can hunt and give you the specific rules. Deer hunting is archery only, so many people don't realize that until we tell them. We have hunt small game. Squirrels galore!
I guess it depends on who you are. The campground is rough and the lodge isnt anything fancy. The lodge at Lake Barkley might be nicer for a honeymoon. But if you are really chill, low maintenance, Pennyrile may be fine. The beach is beautiful, but not very big. In my opinion, its more of a family vacay spot than a romantic getaway.
Yes. They sell hot dogs, pizza, and snow cones, as well as beverages.
I am pretty sure they had paddle boat rentals there. It seems like I saw canoes too.
Between 1948 and 1955. Pennyrile has 863 acres and a new lodge addition was built in 1962.
If you get an electric site you have to share the pedestal with the site next to you.
I would call as wedding packages normally vary in price.
There is a small grocery store and a Dollar General in the town of Dawson Springs. So roughly 10 minutes from the park.
I believe the lodge rate when we stayed recently was around $90/night, but all pricing and reservations are online!
Yes
Yes, the "local guide"'s answer is correct, About 15 miles or so. The nearest Beshear boat ramp is near Dawson Springs. There are some walking trails down to the lake, but most are fairly long.
approximately 6 feet at the deepest areas.
We do not have a date yet for when tent camping will be available. When we open up camping on June 11th it will be limited to self contained RVs or pop-up campers with their own bathroom facilities, as our bathhouses will be closed. We do not have an opening date for the beach area yet. We are eager to get back to normal, but I am afraid we do not know when exactly that will be. Thanks for being patient with us.
There is not a trail from the equestrian sites to the beach. There is a one way road, but I would not encourage guests to walk on it just because sometimes people will drive way too fast leaving the beach knowing that it is a one-way single lane road. People do sometimes walk it however. I would say it's probably a good 20 minute walk. I would say that if you choose to walk it, stay on the grass beside the road for safety.
Yes. The deluxe cabins come with hotel quality linens and dishes
Yes
Rates change during peak seasons, best bet would be to call the park.
There is a photo online and it shows a smaller tow behind camper on a site. When we were there, I don't remember seeing anything accommodating larger vehicles. Plus, many of your roads through there are rather narrow. I would recommend calling the park and ask. They are open year round so it will be easy to get info.
Hello, you would need to contact our group sales coordinator if you were looking for a special quote. She can be reached at 270-797-3421 before 3 PM throughout the week.
I think 6am to 7pm. But not sure about winter hours
Our equestrian sites (you do not have to have a horse to stay on equestrian sites) have full hookups, water, electric, bathhouse, campfire rings, and our regular sites have a bathhouse, campfire rings, water, electric. We have a campstore with a minigolf course located behind it as well. Hope this was helpful.
They do have pavillons. Pretty sure you have to reserve them but it's just a phone call
Yes they close the beach area every night at 7:00 pm .
The beach opens at 10 amband closes at 7
There is no check in or check out times on their website so give them a call.
Its set up as public. The guests have access to equipment but just bring your own stuff and have fun. If you get hungry, check out the restaurant inside the lodge. Its actually pretty good.
No dogs...but there are lots of little black snakes
It's off season and very reasonable. If you like hiking in the cold; great. There food was good. Not much else to do. Your out in the wilderness country, with zombies and host.
i believe ive seen people on different rafts there. you may want to take a walk just to see the area youll be drifting and rowing a canoe because there are rocks, deep water, and shallow areas at different times of the year. just be safe and speak to a park ranger or a local office of the parks and recreation in the places youd like to do an outing
Yes, there are cabins near the lodge and cabins on the other side of the lake, I have stayed in them many times and it was awesome every time.
