Class 4 medical laser is one of our advanced modalities that we use to help acute and chronic pain conditions. Laser therapy has been shown to be effective to help treat acute conditions. With chronic conditions, research has shown that therapy lasers can be used to help combat persistent pain and promote circulation to damaged tissues. It can be a powerful, non-pharmaceutical solution to help reduce pain without the side effects of medication. Class 4 lasers can be found on the sidelines of many pro, college, and Olympic sports teams across the United States and many parts of Europe and Asia. Laser therapy has been shown to be effective at improving post-activity recovery times and reducing delayed onset muscle soreness.
Migraines during pregnancy affects 15 - 20% of women and will typically be worse during the first and second trimester. Pregnancy migraines will often worsen again during labor and delivery. At Mahoney Chiropractic, we have been fortunate to have helped many hundreds of pregnant women get relief from pregnancy-related migraines. Using gentle spinal adjustments to correct the cause of the nerve and muscle stresses - without drugs, injections or surgery. Pregnancy back pain, sciatica and hip pain also respond very well to our pregnancy-pain-relief techniques. We even have chiropractic adjusting tables in all of our offices that are custom-designed for "pregnant belly" position and comfort.
The Occipital Lift adjustment or alignment is a very specific correction that focuses on clearing out interference to the entire central nerve system. In many cases the Occipital Lift correction, which is very gentle on the spine, will produce immediate results with pain and symptom relief, headache relief, and relief of anxiety symptoms. This is by far one of the most profound spinal adjustments and is performed by very few doctors in the world. We are proud that Dr Sean Mahoney and his team have advanced training in this powerful technique.
Compression fractures of the spinal vertebrae most often occur in elderly men and women who have osteoporosis or loss of bone density. Once this type of compression fracture heals and becomes stable, gentle, very light force spinal adjustments can then be used to help decompress these damaged areas. In many cases, significant pain and symptom relief is possible and even a return to daily activities. In any case of compression fracture or suspected spinal fracture, a consultation, thorough examination and spinal imaging is essential.
Children and teens with migraines is more common than one might think. About 10% of kids age 5-15 and 28% of teens suffer with migraines. Failed back surgery syndrome is reported to occur about 40% of the time.

The break-down of scar tissue is the key to why shock wave therapy is so effective. The most common conditions that we have been getting excellent results with include: Shoulder Pain, Frozen Shoulder, Wrist Pain, Thumb Joint Arthritis, Plantar Fasciitis, Knee Pain, Carpal Tunnel, Elbow Tendinitis.
While traction, physical therapy, inversion tables and manipulation may reduce disc pressures to as low as 40 mm Hg, only spinal decompression has been shown to achieve negative pressures within the spine. It has been clinically proven that spinal decompression creates negative pressures as low as -110 mm Hg3 within the injured disc during the treatment session. Normally, pulls exerted on the spine trigger sensory receptors in the back to tighten the muscles surrounding the vertebrae and discs in an effort to protect them from injury, a mechanism in the body known as the proprioceptor response. This typically includes muscle guarding and muscle spasms. Spinal Decompression bypasses this response by slowly pulling on the spine and relaxing the back over an extended period of time, allowing the discs to be repositioned without tension and without setting off muscle guarding and spasms.
A typical spinal decompression treatment protocol consists of about 12–20 sessions over 6-12 weeks. Some conditions require fewer visits; some require more. Many patients report relief from their pain and other symptoms during the first few treatment sessions, and most experience dramatic pain relief after completion of their prescribed treatment program. In our extensive experience with non-surgical Spinal Decompression, approximately 14% of patients have no significant improvement. A small percentage of these people are referred for surgical consultation or medical pain management. Of the patients that we accept for Spinal Decompression Treatment, about 86% experience relief and results that range from good to excellent.
Spinal Decompression is achieved by using a specific combination of force of pull, angle of pull and varying time in order to create a negative pressure inside the discs of the spine. This reversal of pressure creates a vacuum inside the disc that helps to draw in bulging discs and extruded disc material back into place, taking pressure off pinched or irritated nerves. Spinal experts believe that nutrients, oxygen, and fluids are drawn into the disc to create a revitalized environment conducive to healing for both herniated and degenerated discs. Based on the patient’s body weight, tolerance, level of severity, and duration of symptoms, we use our extensive experience to determine a specific treatment plan based on your individual needs. This helps ensure the best and longest lasting results. Spinal Decompression is a non-surgical treatment for: Herniated Discs, Bulging Discs, Sciatica, Degenerated Discs, Spinal Stenosis, Hip Pain, Foot and Leg Neuropathy.
FDA cleared Spinal Decompression technology is available at our Colchester, VT Mahoney Chiropractic office and treats symptoms of pain due to: Herniated Discs Bulging Discs Pinched Nerves Sciatica (leg pain) Degenerative Discs Spinal Stenosis Post-Surgical Pain Hip Pain
Frozen Shoulder syndrome is often referred to as Adhesive Capsulitis. About 90% of the time, Frozen Shoulder is not truly a case of Adhesive Capsulitis. In our Mahoney Chiropractic Colchester offices we have developed a comprehensive treatment for Frozen Shoulder relief and lasting results that focuses on pain relief and restoring full function to the shoulder. Our approach is based on 35 years of extensive experience treating Frozen Shoulder sufferers and is non-surgical and involves no steroid injections. In the approximately 10% of cases where the capsule surrounding the shoulder joint is "frozen" by adhesive capsulitis, more invasive treatments are often required. In these cases we will refer to the best orthopedic specialist who will be able to help.
Frozen Shoulder (sometimes referred to as Adhesive Capsulitis), is a panful and limiting condition that we have been successfully helping at Mahoney Chiropractic in Colchester since 1986. In the initial "Pain Phase" of this condition your body will naturally compensate for the pain and limited motion of the shoulder and arm. This almost always leads to secondary areas of dysfunction leading to; neck pain, upper back pain, radiating arm and hand pain/numbness and muscle spasms. Even with standard chiropractic care and/or physical therapy, this condition can hand on for many months - even years. Dr Sean Mahoney and his team have developed a Frozen Shoulder Relief & Lasting Results treatment program that has helped pain sufferers get over this condition much more quickly. By adding the Trigenics nerve/muscle/joint techniques and EPAT Shockwave Therapy, getting relief without injections or surgery is possible.
